Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

The advancement of education of the public in the UK in Indian culture through the provision of traditional Indian cultural events. The relief of financial hardship, either generally or individually, of people living in India by making grants of money to charities for providing or paying for items, services or facilities.

In planning our activities for the year we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

The main activities that we undertook in 2023 are as follows:

Saraswati Puja
Cultural programme (Sycamore Fest & Porshia Sen)
Donation to Swadhina

 Kali Puja and Diwali event;  Donation to Kankhal Medical Aid  Members event – Holi (Festival of Colours) & Nababorsho (Bengali New Year)

Charity Outdoor Day

Saraswati Puja and Kali Puja & Diwali event are festivities that highlight the multi-cultural facet of the Indian community. It engages the community with greater social participation in traditional ceremonies, at the same time spreading the rich cultural heritage of India within the community. These events were open to the general public.

The fest and musical programme that was organized in October 2023 supported our objective of spreading Indian culture, througharts and music, to the people in the UK. This event was a ticketed event mainly to cover the cost of organizing the programme.

Sanskriti, through its donation to an Indian charity Swadhina, fulfilled and continue its long-standing ambition to support girls’ education in rural India and to support the underprivileged through the provision of educational facilities. Swadhina, a registered charity in India, works at the ground level and Sanskriti through its collaboration with Swadhina, launched the opening and running of the educational facility in the Musabani area of Jharkhand, India. The Charity Outdoor Day was organized in July 2023 as a fund raising event to raise fund for this worthy cause.

Kankhal Medical Aid (KMA) helps the Ramakrishna Sevashram Charity Hospital in Hardwar, India in its quest to provide free medical aid to the poor people of the neighbouring villages. Sanskriti has been supporting KMA for many years and that support was continued in 2023.

We are grateful for the many hours ourmembers have put in -in planning, organizing and executing the events during the year.

This included the AGM held in February 2023 where the trustees presented the charity work that we did in the previous year and our future ambition, and the executive committee members presented the event plans for 2023.

Our main source of funds this year has been membership fees, donations during the Kali Puja & Diwali event, donations from members, donation during Charity Outdoor Day event, sponsorship funds received from advertisers during the fest and cultural programme and Kali Puja & Diwali event, and donations from non-members for Kali Puja and Saraswati Puja events.

Expenditure was also incurred to support operational cost e.g. cost of insurance, web hosting cost and garage hire cost.

Future Plans

The coming year will see a continued emphasis on using the balance funds in 2023 to be used for our charitable causes. And to grow Sanskriti’s membership base with more volunteers contributing to our events and cause.

As the charity’s trustees of the Charity, you are responsible for the preparation of

I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the 2011 Act”). In carrying out my examination, I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.
