Activities

We work with primary schools in Malawi to improve the literacy levels of thousands of underprivileged children across the country. CharChar trains Literacy Support Specialist teachers (qualified Malawian graduate teachers) who volunteer to teach for one year at CharChar supported government primary schools. These teachers deliver phonics centred English lessons daily.

Objects: The Objects Of The CIO Are To Advance Education For The Public Benefit In Low Or Middle-Income Countries, In Particular But Not Exclusively By Operating In Malawi To Promote And Develop Improvement To Literacy And Numeracy Outcomes Through Strategies And Actions, Using Funds To Develop Teacher’s Training And Education In Literacy, Use Funds To Overcome Inequalities In Literacy Outcomes Between Rich And Poor Learners In Low And Middle-Income Countries, Use Funds To Develop Partnerships For Long-Term Strategic Interventions And Improvements; E.g. Research, Skill Capacity Development, Leadership Development, Pre-Service And Emergency Developments. Nothing In This Constitution Shall Authorise An Application Of The Property Of The CIO For The Purposes Which Are Not Charitable In Accordance With [section 7 Of The Charities And Trustee Investment (scotland) Act 2005] And [section 2 Of The Charities Act (northern Ireland) 2008].
