Activities

Promotes the study of astronomy, by providing public observing sessions, lectures, advice, a journal, telescope making facilities, a library, demonstrations, lecturers, a meeting place and outings to places of astronomical interest. A modest annual membership fee is charged, the aim being to cover expenses and provide a concessionary rate for unemployed, students, and Senior Citizens.

Objects: The Objects Of The CIO Are, For The Public Benefit, To Promote And Advance The Education Of The Public In Astronomy And Related Sciences, Primarily But Not Exclusively, By: Encouraging Public Interest And Participation In Astronomy; Providing Equipment And Facilities For The Active Participation In Astronomical Observations; Furthering The Knowledge Of The Public In Astronomy Through Public Events, Lectures And The Circulation Of Research Data.
