**Objects:** THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE, FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, TO PROMOTE AND ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN ASTRONOMY AND RELATED SCIENCES, PRIMARILY BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY, BY: ENCOURAGING PUBLIC INTEREST AND PARTICIPATION IN ASTRONOMY; PROVIDING EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES FOR THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATIONS; FURTHERING THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PUBLIC IN ASTRONOMY THROUGH PUBLIC EVENTS, LECTURES AND THE CIRCULATION OF RESEARCH DATA.

**Activities:** Promotes the study of astronomy, by providing public observing sessions, lectures, advice, a journal, telescope making facilities, a library, demonstrations, lecturers, a meeting place and outings to places of astronomical interest. A modest annual membership fee is charged, the aim being to cover expenses and provide a concessionary rate for unemployed, students, and Senior Citizens.
