8 trustees served the charity during the reporting period and two trustee resigned at the end of the year because of family issues. All major decisions of the charity are made collectively by the Board of Trustees in accordance with the charity’s constitution and governing document.
Dr Hawa Yatera was appointed to lead the board of trustee, ensuring effective governance, strategic direction and legal compliance to fulfil the charity mission. Charity is led by volunteers and casual worker.
The charity began operating as a community group on 14 October 2019, supported by its members and trustees through their personal resources. It was subsequently registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 12 November 2020. The charity is governed by its Trust Deed, adopted on 5 November 2019.
Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees
The recruitment and appointment of trustees are carried out in accordance with the Trust Deed and subject to the approval of the existing trustees. Suitable candidates are expected to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and aspirations of both the organisation and the community it serves. To ensure a broad range of skills, experience, and perspectives, the Board of Trustees reflects the diversity of the beneficiaries and communities supported by the charity.
Membership, Trustee Induction and Training
Membership of the charity is open to any individual who supports the charity’s aims and agrees to abide by its constitution. Newly appointed trustees receive an induction from existing trustees, covering the charity’s objectives, governance arrangements, and operational activities. Trustees are also directed to relevant

guidance for charity trustees published by the Charity Commission to support them in carrying out their responsibilities effectively.

Achievement & Challenges
30[th] November 2024 to 30[th] December 2025
During the year (2024-2025), United Women Affiliation (UWA) continued to deliver its charitable objectives in support of underprivileged communities in Sheffield and surrounding areas. The charity provided support, outreach, and capacity-building opportunities for disadvantaged women, elderly people, single mothers, young people, and single fathers through awareness sessions, educational training and empowerment interventions, life-skills development, and informative meetings. UWA structure its course to improve the quality of life for the people the charity serves and to advocate for action on preventable social determinants of health.
With UWA’s interest, increasing awareness of financial and emotional well-being was a strategic action, implemented through the Lift Up Project, research, partnership involvement, and social inclusion interventions. Indeed, families had opportunities to engage in different activities, including Swahili social and other community partnership events. through nature-based allotment activities and creative health programmes aimed at improving participants’ overall quality of life and community engagement.
During the 2024–25, UWA received minimal financial support, with our main supporter being a local government, which enabled the charity to continue reaching out to deprived families. Working together in partnership with other organisations, UWA provided expertise in research collaboration. The research involvement improved the trust of underserved communities, which would contribute to the strategic consideration of the local government in interventions appropriateness planning of appropriate interventions. In line with the quality of life for the people we serve, the charity is proud to bring families with children and young people to the city to watch films and plays. Some of these activities, some families have never had the opportunity to attend in their lives. That means UWA is making a difference to these families, through improving the quality, bonding parents with their children

in a positive environment, reducing social isolation and promoting inclusivity through creative health initiatives.
We appreciate all our funders as listed below for their incredible support; without them, we wouldn’t have been able to reach out recorded 468 people. Through testimonies, case studies, outreach visits, outreaches, and observations, family appreciation, thank-you cards, and the continuity of families engaging in our interventions, we evaluate our services as highly needed especially for families that are hardly reached and heard.
Using our internal charity monitoring and evaluation tools and theory of change model, we have achieved 92% on improvement in emotional and social well-being outcomes among participants. 88% empowerment of families and children. Alleviated 30% of food poverty challenges through fair share food initiatives. Still, there is a huge gap in food poverty and economic crises in many families that we serve. Financial incapacity remains a challenge.
Services Highlights
In the period of November 2024 to December 2025, UWA was able to deliver the following interventions:
Working Together In Research and Partnership.
UWA engaged and led a Family dynamic and emotional wellbeing explored the experience of underprivileged single mothers. 15 single parents participated and 22 single parents participated in focus group discussion and 71 parents responded to the structure questionnaire. The sessions explored themes such as social inclusion and engagement, emotional wellbeing, access to service and lived experience of single parenthood.
The research aimed to understand:
(1) The barriers to social inclusion and wellbeing experienced by refugee and asylum-seeking mothers. And
(2) understanding how parental responsibilities, language, cultural exclusion, and access to services impact their mental health and community engagement. Case

study was generated and disseminations of the research outcome was done in the working together research event.
In addition, 163 UWA families members were supported to participate in community development research, diabetic research, learning and heritage research, health and wellbeing for ethnicity communities research. With this motivational participation, increased trust in research contributions in hardly heard families.

Training, Education and Empowerment Activities
Opportunity Sheffield funded a Lift Up project, which delivered a pilot culturally inclusive skills training and job-opportunity awareness program for 12 women. The course was 10 weeks (30 hrs) and aimed to support economically inactive individuals by enhancing culturally inclusive skills , improving their Understanding of UK working and employment standards, and increasing their awareness of job opportunities.

- 2% of the participants stepped up to sign for more support to access job opportunities
Social Inclusion, Food Access and Creative Health :
The Mjasiri (Be Brave) project continued supporting deprived parents, their children, women, and young people. The project ended in March 2025. Then, the Crucible theatre Sheffield community interventions took over the Swahili social project, continued to offer cultural inclusivity activities for UWA families, and reached out to 380 people. The activities included: art and craft, social meetings, sharing experiences, sowing, and watching films and plays. Swahili social activities, dancing, theatre, cinema and creative art sessions.
Alleviation of Food poverty and culturally inclusive meals support
Through local government, UWA received a small grant to support families coming together to enjoy quality time sharing culturally significant food. We had four family get-togethers, which brought together 180 people. Many families had the opportunity to meet with other families, expand their social networks, and gain awareness of what is truly happening within the city. This engagement promoted a sense of belonging within the group and felt cared for. Also, through the fair-share co-op food intervention, families received fresh fruits and vegetables.

emotional, mental and social health challenges to the parents and their children. These interventions alleviated trauma, promoted a sense of hope and unity within these families, and increased positive social engagement and participation. Remain challenge are the language barrier, digital skills, food poverty and crisis of living remain major issues within the community that we serve.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of United Women Affiliation
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of United Women Affiliation (the Trust) for the year ended 31 December 2025.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under Section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Taxation
The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
