York Late Music CIOwas established under its tonstitution on 15 October 2020, immediately taklng over all of the activitie5 of it5 predecessor, Soundpool - a charity created by a Decla ration of Trust dated 26 August 1997 a nd registered as a tharity on 28 Ma rch 1998 by the charity commission. Sounilpool ceased activities and is recorded as a 'Removed Charity, on the Charity Commissions webslte. Soundpool's fund5 a re recorded as being transferred to the CIO on 19 July 2923. The new CIO has ta ken over all of the activities of the origin31 trust. Presentlng annua I public concert series, lunchtime a nd evening, featuring primarily 20th and 21st century classical musicli.e. contemporary classical), especially from living composers, and includin8 a short educationa I talk or interview at each eveningconcert. Running educational workshops for young composers a nd presenting a selection of their work in public concerts performed by professional musicians. ACHIEVEMENTSAND PERFORMANCE Revlewof Actlvltles The York Late Music 2023-24 toncert serles delSvered all the proposed nine evening concerts plu5 eleven lunchtime recita Is. Performers included.. Delta Saxophone Quartet, Elysian Singers, Ruth Lee Iharpl, and the 8iftgham String (lua rtet. Commissioned composers included rim Brookes, Gavin Bryars and Christopher Gander. There were 38 first performa nces. In pa rtnership with York Arts Education, we included a successful education outreach project of 30 schoolfyoung people's workshops culminating in a concert recStal on Saturday, 24 April 2024, at Millthorpe School in York. We continued our partnership with the Music Depa rtment at York St john University. There were two successful graduate composition workshops.. Nina Kumin Iviolinl, Joriatha n Sage Icla rinetl & Kate Ledger Ipianol on Monday 22nd January* a nd Steve BinBha m (violin and electronics) ot) Friday S February. The student compositions were rehearsed, recorded, and selected pieces performed at the YLM concerts. Other partnerships included working with the Music Department at the University of York in promotlng and supporting each other's concerts and events a5 well a5 the York Festival of Ideas. Flnanclal Revlew The financial statements for the year shows income £37,779 and total expenditure of £39,725, giving a deficit for the year of£l.946. This is countered by unmatched fvnding from the previous year brought forward. Funding provided by our sponsors is often for periods which do not match our accountlng perlod. RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILlnES OF TRUSTEES AND INDEPENDENT EXAMINER The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity'5 trustees consider that an audit is not required for this period under sertion 144 of the Charitles Act 2011 Ithe 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to.. examine the accounts (under 5ertion 145 of the 2011 Act, as amended),. to follow the protedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under settion 14515llbl of the 2011 Act, as amended),. and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. BASIS OF INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S sfATEMENT My examination was carried out in accordance wlth the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting record5 kept by the charity and a comparlson of the accounts presented with those records. It also Includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit • and consequently I do not express an audlt opinion on whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view, and the report is limited to those matter5 Set out in the statement below.
