Section C Objectives and activities

The objects of the CIO are to relieve the needs of children and young people (ages 0 – 25) in Northumberland affected by one or more of the issues specified in clause 3.2, and their families, through the means specified in clause 3.3. 3.2 The children and young people to benefit shall be affected by one or more of the following issues: (a) autism; (b) Summary of the objects of the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); (c) looked after children charity set out in its (or those previously looked after); (d) any other category of children or governing document young people which the trustees consider to have similar needs to those above. 3.3 The objects shall be carried out by the following means: (a) by provision of outdoor and indoor activities; (b) by provision of speech and language therapy; (c) by supporting networking and mutual learning by the parents and carers of the children and young people; (d) by such other means (being charitable in law) as the trustees consider will help to advance the objects.

Activities have included: tutoring, therapy and assessments, outdoor activities, hiring play centres to run “quiet sessions” so children can play whilst parents meet.

We confirm that in making decisions about the charity’s work the trustees have taken account of Charity Commission guidance on public benefit.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

This year we have been refining our activities following feedback and evaluation from our pilots and now have a selection of activities that are very popular. We are now looking to start pilots for activities for slightly older children. In addition we have been planning the launch of a long term project – “Friends Forever and Hobbies for Life” a project designed to enable children with SEN to be able to continue their friendships from school (and develop new ones) whilst attending accessible and affordable fun hobbies in the community.

We now directly support 35 children plus siblings and parents. We now have several parents who are engaged with assisting the charity.

The trustees are pleased with the progress that has been made, and we look forward to moving forwards with our plans.
