Funding pressures meant that we were not able to back-fill Abbey, s Debt Advisor role in 2023 which added significantly to the pressure the service wa8 under. In 2023 we saw 66 new clients and helped with £682,193 of debt. On average our clients were £148 a month better off after our help. 44 of our client8 were helped with a Debt Relief Order. A sign of the cost of living pre8sures faclng our community is that in 2022 there was a 40 Increase in the nuTDber 0£ clients we Bee who are work. Even rrlore concernlng was a S00* increase in the nuntser of retired cllent8 we saw. Gettlng sustainable funding in place Is a continuous challenge. In 2023 our grant frorn South Yorkshire Ccrnunity Foundation ended and we held a gift day to help Becure the work 0£ CY4A. A grant from the Ministry of HouBing. ConrnunitieB and Loeal Government helped us hugely from July onwards. We have been working with the Dlocese to build a BUBtainability plan. As well as CNA Bentley, we alBO operate the School Wardrobe which provlde8 hlgh quality second hand unifornB for free to the DN5 communlty. Th18 Bervice 18 by volunteer8. The School Wardrobe ODened in 2022 a8 St Peter8 Unifortn Bank. W intended to help th08e who struggled financially with the cost of uni£orn. However, the project wa8 SO Bucceoaful In securing uniform that we had to refocus as a recycllng project and open the service to anyone who wanted to access it. S¢)me people were put off by the name 'Uniform Bank, and 80 we renamed it st Peter, 8 School Wardrobe early In 2023. We have helped 680 children 2023 wlth 4,483 Items of cloth&ng which would likely have ended up being thrown away. The service has been run by 15 volunteers, wlth more helping over the Summer holidays when demand 18 highe8t. Unlform is provided by parents at l? BchoolB acros8 the DNS postcode area, with many holding end-of -tern recycllng day8 and lettlng u8 sort through their lost property too. As well a8 the8e fantastic project8 that are run by the church, we are a collection point for both The Clothing Bank la national charlty located nearby) and Bentley Baptist Communlty Foodbank. Davison &Co. Our children have also been growing in faith at Survival Bible (a fim all age discipleship group) and through their own activitie during the Sunday Services held ￿ the Comrnunity Hall. Until 2023. the children had stayed in through the whole service which wa8 great in many ways, but we felt that they would benefit more from a tailored approach and that's what we have delivered. Evangell8m. We have been runnlng the Alpha courBe each year as a way to help people discover the Christian faith a non-threatening environrnent . In 2023 we held three Alphas. Davison &Co. We Spent £146,426 on the n]Dning of the church. with a Bignificant proportion of that being Bentley. We paid £15. 100 to the Diocese of Sheffield towards the Btipend of the Vicar. Further details of expenditure can be found below. We started 2023 with a deflclt on our general fund of £2, 009. Over the year we reversed the defielt and managed to end the year with a surplus 0£ £3,435. This ia a significant turnaround. Over the next few years we have three financial prioritie8. 11 To meet our reserves target by 2028 (Bee our reserves policy below) 21 To reduce our reliance on grant funding for our compagsion ministries. We will need to do this by diversifying our 80urce8 of Income aB well as increa8ing our glving. 3) To reduce the gap between what the Diocese pays the Vicar and what st Peter, 8 contribute8 towards that.
