evangelistic. social and ecumenical. The PCC is responsible for the
maintenance of the Church building, owns the Communlty Hall at High
street, Bentley and al80 has a lea8e on Town End Colmn￿ltY Hub on
ConyerB Road in Bentley.

To faeilitate this work it is important that we maintain the fabric
of the Church and the Comrmnity Hall and the Town End Community
Achievements and Perfornmnce
Adoratlon.
We continued to hold thre6 sertsrfces each week In 2023. As well as Iwo Se￿CeS on a Sunday at
9.30 and 11.15am, we also had a midweek Holy Communion s￿vI￿ on Wednesdays. Usual
Sunday Attendance was up from 39 to 46 atross th8 year. whbch was encouragiry. Our electoral
roll was 41 at the APCM In May 2023, whth has n(Yw f8llen to 38.
A8 well aB our regular Bervices, we enable our communlty to
celebrate and tlw)k God at the milestones of the Journey through
Ilfe. We help people Btart a journey of faith at baptism,
both for
adults who are u8ually prepared through the Alpha course and
children, wh08e parent8 attend the Chri8teuing CourBe. We had the
privilege of marrying two couple8 In Church too and we also took a
number of funeral8 durlng the year collunending those who had dled
Into Godl s care.

We helped pe<)plp. to belong by 3erving free hot drinks on the School
nin every week during term tlme. We also ran a parent and toddler
group (Llttle Fi8hea) to help reduce Bocial isolation and to
ntroduce people into the church famlly.

stepped up to fill the Centre Manager Role. Funding pressures
meant that we were not able to back-fill Abbey, s Debt Advisor role
in 2023 which added significantly to the pressure the service wa8
under.
In 2023 we saw 66 new clients and helped with £682,193 of debt.
On average our clients were £148 a month better off after our help.
44* of our client8 were helped with a Debt Relief Order.
A sign of
the cost of living pre8sures faclng our community is that in 2022
there was a 40* Increase in the nuTDber 0£ clients we Bee who are
work.
Even rrlore concernlng was a S00* increase in the nuntser of
retired cllent8 we saw.
Gettlng sustainable funding in place Is a continuous challenge.
In
2023 our grant frorn South Yorkshire Ccrnunity Foundation ended and
we held a gift day to help Becure the work 0£ CY4A. A grant from
the Ministry of HouBing. ConrnunitieB and Loeal Government helped us
hugely from July onwards.
We have been working with the Dlocese to
build a BUBtainability plan.
As well as CNA Bentley, we alBO operate the School Wardrobe which
provlde8 hlgh quality second hand unifornB for free to the DN5
communlty. Th18 Bervice 18 by volunteer8.
The School Wardrobe ODened in 2022 a8 St Peter8 Unifortn Bank. W
intended to help th08e who struggled financially with the cost of
uni£orn. However, the project wa8 SO Bucceoaful In securing
uniform that we had to refocus as a recycllng project and open the
service to anyone who wanted to access it.
S¢)me people were put
off by the name 'Uniform Bank, and 80 we renamed it st Peter, 8
School Wardrobe early In 2023.
We have helped 680 children 2023 wlth 4,483 Items of cloth&ng
which would likely have ended up being thrown away. The service
has been run by 15 volunteers, wlth more helping over the Summer
holidays when demand 18 highe8t.
Unlform is provided by parents at l? BchoolB acros8 the DNS
postcode area, with many holding end-of -tern recycllng day8 and
lettlng u8 sort through their lost property too.
As well a8 the8e fantastic project8 that are run by the church, we
are a collection point for both The Clothing Bank la national
charlty located nearby) and Bentley Baptist Communlty Foodbank.

We are working on ways to grow people ￿ thelr personal

Our children have also been growing in faith at Survival Bible (a
fim all age discipleship group) and through their own activitie
during the Sunday Services held ￿ the Comrnunity Hall.

the children had stayed in through the whole service which wa8
great in many ways, but we felt that they would benefit more from a
tailored approach and that's what we have delivered.
Evangell8m.
We have been runnlng the Alpha courBe each year as a way to help
people discover the Christian faith a non-threatening
environrnent .
In 2023 we held three Alphas. AB is usual Eor us,
attendance varied wildly between the dlf ferent course8, but there
are people our church family today who have come through Alpha.

The Community Hall Serves the Co￿￿UnitY well by hostlng a number of
events every week Includlng bingo, line danclng and children,
dance ela8seB.
It Is also well used by local familles for parties
and other private booklngs.
In 2023 we had the Electrical
Installation Condltlon Report completed and the related nece8Bary
worka completed to make us compliant. a8 well as having had a new
Ix)iler Installed earlier in the year.

has been 8ucce8s£ully operating a8 the base for Bentley and the
School Wardrobe all year and we are hoping to further develop the

Four members of the PCC sit on the deanery s￿)d. Th18 provldes the
PCC with an important link between the pari8h and the wider
Btructure8 of the church.

We Spent £146,426 on the n]Dning of the church. with a Bignificant
proportion of that being Bentley. We paid £15. 100 to the
Diocese of Sheffield towards the Btipend of the Vicar. Further
details of expenditure can be found below.
We started 2023 with a deflclt on our general fund of £2, 009. Over
the year we reversed the defielt and managed to end the year with a
surplus 0£ £3,435. This ia a significant turnaround.
Over the next few years we have three financial prioritie8.
11 To meet our reserves target by 2028 (Bee our reserves policy
below)
21 To reduce our reliance on grant funding for our compagsion
ministries.
We will need to do this by diversifying our
80urce8 of Income aB well as increa8ing our glving.
3) To reduce the gap between what the Diocese pays the Vicar and
what st Peter, 8 contribute8 towards that.

The PCC agreed a reserveg pollcy In October 2023. Our policy to
hold reserves equal to three month8 of 8taff eosts. Our current
target is £14, 000 which we are looking to reach by 2028, although
that date wlll be brought forward by allocating any legacles
recelved towards the target If it's not yet met.

Structure. governauce and mazwJem•nt
The method of appointment of PCC TheThber8 is set out In the Church
Representation Rules. At St. Peter. s the membership of the PCC
consists of the incun)bent lour vicar) and curate, the churchwardens
and members elected by the people on the electoral roll of the
church. All those who attend our services are encouraged to
register on the Electoral Roll and stand for election to the PCC.
The PCC rnemberB are the tThstees of the charity. They oversee the
governance of the Church including agreeing the budget and ensurlng
we are coropliant with safeguarding and other rules.
