Minority Ethnic) individuals suffering from
diabetes and who are also multimorbid or

Para 1.17 and
1.19
The charity has focused on promoting
biomedical animation and other creative
content in student research on diabetes and
related illnesses in ethnic minorities. We
offer access to premium biomedical 3D
animation, motion graphics, and other
creative content ,for a limited number of
university students preparing PowerPoint
presentations or research dissertations that
focus on diabetes and related illnesses in
people from ethnic minority groups. Such
creative content can make a striking impact
on an audience, helping to better convey
findings from research in this important area,
while also boosting student confidence.

whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity

Para 1.38 In Spring/Summer 2021 the charity offered
research-based eHealth work placements.
We recruited tech savvyvolunteersto use
social media to promote published research
findings that help improve the lives of BAME
people living with diabetes and other chronic
illnesses. These volunteers were highly
motivated UK university undergraduates.
Most placements entailed working from
home (WFH), and typically involved eHealth
activities, meaning using information and
communications technologies to promote
health, by raising awareness. Most
volunteers were involved in developing
anonymised audio-only YouTube videos (no
name or face, for privacy) that report
published research findings relevant to the
charity’s objectives. These anonymised
voice over videos were created using
Microsoft PowerPoint, supported with

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 The charity continues to promote the use of
biomedical animation and other creative
content to support student research on
diabetes and related illnesses in ethnic
minorities. Starting September 2021 the
charity supported who students completed
dissertations identifying cultural factors
hampering health service use in ethnic
minorities, and health beliefs contributing to
antibiotics misuse in diverse populations.
This academic 2022/2023 (starting
September) the charity is looking to support
up to five dissertation students at
undergraduate level, and at least one
student at Masters level. As before, the

Financial Review

Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 By the end of the current financial period
(07/08/2020 to 06/08/2021) the charity’s
finances looked healthy. On 20 May 2021
the charity received a £1000 customer
donation fund from the Cooperative Bank, to
support the charity’s work promoting
diabetes research, especially on social
media. By the end of the current financial
period only £27 of this money had been
spent (mainly on email & Zoom services).
Some additional financial information is
reported below, which falls just outside
the current financial period (07/08/2020 to
06/08/2021). Further details will be
included in the 2021-2022 annual report.
Starting September 2021 the charity took a
more targeted approach, launching a 3-year
program offering up to three students from
Liverpool John Moores University access to
premium creative content (e.g., 3d medical
animations), via online platform Envato
Elements, to support research projects that
focus on diabetes or related topics in diverse
populations. The programme was to be
funded by a £1000 Community Grant
provided by Cooperative Bank.
The projected costs are shown below:
3-YEAR PROGRAMME (Started Sept 2021
to Ends Sept 2024)
Sponsor 3 students first two years (471
USD total)
Sponsor 2 students in third year (367 USD
total)
Total cost = 958 GBP
The charity has now funded the first year of
the programme, in Sept 2021- Sept 2022
(actual cost in GBP = 405.44 GBP) and
currently has sufficient funds in the bank to
fund another year of the programme, in
2022/2023 (subscription renewal cost for the
programme via Envato Elements is EUR393
[339.26 GBP], while the current balance on
the Charity Account as of 1/07/2022 is
£566.34, after subtracting monthly Titan
email subscription charges and cost of a
Zoom call account).
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 Current funds/reserves may be used to
either (a) fund another year of the creative
content programme, or (b) launch a
student’s small grant scheme to support
qualitative research projects on diabetes in
ethnic minorities.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 £998 (for the current financial period
07/08/2020 to 06/08/2021)
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 Not applicable
Details of fund materially in
deficit
Para 1.24 Not applicable
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
Para 1.23 It is not clear at this stage if there will be
sufficient funds to cover a second or third
year of the Envato programme (2023/2024).
The charity is considering providing other
forms of support to dissertation students
researching diabetes in ethnic minorities
(e.g., making small research grants), with
whatever funds are available at the time.
This will be subject to approval by the board
of trustees.
