Para 1.20 Our event Balancing Life with OI
focuses on "Surgery & Treatment"
Celebrating Wishbone Day. 2023.
The event aimed at calling all African
OI organizations together with the
purpose of support, collaboration,
and networking within African and
Western OI groups/organizations for a
reasonable cause of life and
treatment action in Africa and across
the globe for Oiers.
Our main speaker Dr. Adolfredo
Santana a Pediatric Orthopedic
Surgeon, Doctor in Medicine (M.D.) J.
M Vargas School of Medicine. The
Central University of Venezuela.
Caracas, Venezuela.
We were also honoured to have the
President of the Osteogenesis
Imperfecta Federation Europe, Ingunn
Westerheim who was also a speaker
at the event, and Dagma Mekking,
Director, Care4brittlebone,
Netherlands.
The event was very focused on oi
corrective surgery, it was very
informative and engaging as Dr
Adolfredo Santana took us on a ride in
a transformational world of wonder in
an oi surgical theatre.
We also carried fundraising event
both physically event, webinars and
on social media as we fundraised to
support Oi Nigerian children the
required corrective surgery.
We also raised awareness
programmes on several occasions
both on social media etc of which we
were contacted byfewpeople who

had oi and we were able to channel them the right direction for help. Over 200 women from the UK and different African countries benefited from our women’s programme this year as we held women only meeting, talking about “self-care, “My Me Time” taking care of your mental health as it relates to carers. women and female carers and many oi children benefited for treatment of bisphosphonate outside the UK, including training a few African doctors on Oi and treatment across Africa. African OI organizations came together to celebrate the international Wishbone Day, this has brought Oi people closer, relating together. It has also fostered good relationship among oi’ers across the globe which has also impacted positively to their mental health. We have also help programmes on mental health, support oiers and non oiers with information and directing them to the right root for further help and support.
