Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Improvements
2020 saw further improvements to the club’s facilities, and, building on the previous year’s repairing & repainting of the tennis courts, the club surroundings now offer greater public benefit to our village.
Work on the hut and removing boarding from the windows means the hut is a brighter & more pleasant environment for everyone using our facilities.
Our thanks to all who provided funding, including Shadwell Parish Council & our local ward councillors, and also to our volunteers for giving their time.
Membership
Overall membership for the year increased by 28% with Junior membership increasing by 60%
Coaching
Despite the Covid 19 restrictions, with careful planning by the Head Coach, & strictly following LTA & government guidelines, coaching sessions were offered for most the year. Junior sessions included Mini Tennis on Sunday mornings and Improvers on Saturday afternoons. Thanks to a grant from the Outer North East Community Committee, subsided After School Tennis was available on Mondays & Fridays and School Holiday Tennis which over 60 children attended.
Adult coaching sessions were also offered & well attended.
Events
Many planned events had to be cancelled or postponed. However, when Covid 19 restrictions permitted, events were held and very well supported. Weekly social tennis events took place when permitted. And included :-
University of the Third Age (retired / over 55’s)
This weekly, Thursday morning activity, has now been running for approximately 5 years & the number of participants continues to increase. Members of the U3A and senior members are welcome and play throughout the year in almost all weather conditions.
Rusty Racquets When evening light permits, Rusty Racquets, for lapsed or adult players new to the game, takes place on Tuesday evenings.
Our thanks the Shadwell News & Shadwell Post Office who continue to help us by publicising our events.
