Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 1[st] June 2022 to 31[st] May 2023

Charity name: Broomfield Football Club Charity registration number: 1189379

Objectives and Activities

Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
The promotion of community participation in healthy
recreation for the benefit of the inhabitants of Broomfield,
Essex and the surrounding areas by the provision of
facilities for playing football and other such sports which
improve physical fitness.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
In planning our activities for the year at our trustee
meetings, we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s
guidance on public benefit. The project to install drainage
under the main pitch was completed with £58,272 paid for
the works. A further £3,854 was spent on some perimeter
fencing following the dredging of ditches to help with the
increased water run-off. This investment is already paying
off with fewer postponements being seen and all pitches in
excellent condition. The charity welcomes all people without
distinction of age, sex, sexual orientation, race or of
political, religious or other opinions.

Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Following two years disrupted by Covid 19, the charity grew
team numbers from 32 to 39.
The investments in drainage described above were
materially funded by a £46,285 grant from the Football
Foundation. The investment, together with twice annual
verti-draining and fertilising, ensures that all pitches have
the capacity to meet the demand from an ever-growing
local population for girls and boys to play football and
develop social skills, health and fitness through the medium
of football.
Fundraising events included a children’s Halloween party,
quiz nights, a monthly raffle and proceeds from a second-
hand football boot and clothing store. The charity also
welcomed back its main annual fundraising event; the
“Funday Weekend” 5 a-side tournament for all age groups,
an almost ever-present date in the calendar for the past 40
years. Circa £25,000 was raised from this event in June, a
new record contribution.
The Charity was also honoured to initiate a partnership with
the Jack Petchey Foundation (“JPF”) for both the girls’ and
boys’ sections of the club. During the period, the charity
qualified for 18 JPF young person’s Achievement Awards of

£300, two Leader Awards of £1,000 a special award of £3,000 and £2,200 towards educational visits/team building activities. These monies were used to benefit the Achievement Award winners’ team or for the wider benefit of the young players at the club (other awards). £1000 of the award for educational visits was allocated towards the cost of a stadium visit for overseas guests as (post covid) the charity resumed its 40 year-long footballing exchange programme with SV Sparta Werlte, a club in Germany. Towards the end of the period, the charity received a £2,375 “Deep Impact” grant from the Barclays Community Football Fund to help to set up and fund training space for new Soccability (pan-disabled) training sessions for 5-11 years old children.

Financial Review

Review of the charity’s The charity finished the year in a strong financial position
financial position at the end and it had no significant liabilities. The period saw a net
of the period cash inflow of circa £13,000 driven by increased player
registration fees and match subscriptions, private rental
fees, rent from Broomfield FC Services Ltd (trading
subsidiary), fundraising activities and grants offset by
general overheads and the investment activities described
above.
Statement explaining the We consider that cash reserves should be maintained at a
policy for holding reserves minimum of £4k of unrestricted cash all times. This is
stating why they are held considered a prudent level to cover day to day expenses for
several months. All meaningful projects are planned in
advance and not undertaken until committed funding is in
place.
Amount of reserves held £29,828
