Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 01 April 2024 To 31 March 2025

Charity name: Community Action Ghana

Charity registration number: 1188867

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 The prevention or relief of poverty in Ghana
by providing items and services to
individuals in need and/or other
organisations working to prevent poverty
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
Successful fundraising of £9651 to allow the
charity to undertake its objectives. This
included fundraising through craft fairs
though this was more useful in raising
awareness of our charity than raising funds.
The number of donors now giving regular
monthly donations continues to grow.
The planning and completion of a toilet block
in Mafi Abude using the restricted funds from
the Greenhall and Salter foundations as well
as donation from regular givers.
Community Action Ghana drilled a borehole
in Abunyanyana and installed a pump which
fed two water tanks. These tanks were put
on towers that the community had built at
either end of the village. We also replaced a
broken submersible pump and a cracked
water tank in another Abunyanyana
community using funds generously given by
a friend.
Books have been obtained from friends,
relatives and Book Aid International and
distributed to libraries that we have
previously renovated. One outstanding but
poignant gift was an Atlas that the librarian
at Alavanyo Kpeme library received with the
words ‘I have always wanted an atlas for my
library.’ He was welling up as he said this.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 The trustees at all times have had regard to
the guidance issued by the Charity
Commission on public benefit and can
confirm that members of the communities we
have worked with this year have benefitted
from increased availability to clean water,
clean sanitation and books and a safe place
to read them to increase their literacy thus
improving their employability

SORP reference Grants are not made as such but the charity buys materials in Ghana so that projects can go ahead. Para 1.38 Policy on grant making Para 1.38 Policy on social investment including program related investment We do not have volunteers in the normal sense but the communities volunteer their time and resources in the construction and Para 1.38 decoration of the projects. When this is given Contribution made by a monetary value it approximates to about volunteers half of the total cost of most projects. Not only is this in itself valuable but it also gives ownership of the project to the community. Other

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Community nurses have said that
community toilet blocks have led to a
noticeable decline in the number of infant
mortality.
The libraries are well used as indicated by
records of books borrowed and by the fact
that many of the books are showing signs of
use. The library in Alavanyo Kpeme is open
and constantly full from 6.00 am to 9.00 pm.
The communities also value the safe space
that the libraries provide for the youth of the
communities where they can gather in early
mornings and evenings to study in safe well
lit clean environments.
There is continued anecdotal evidence
showing that there is less antisocial
behaviour from the youth in these
communities.
Seamstresses in the communities we work
in continue to make bags of different sizes
from locally available cloth which we then
sell in the UK and a fair trade shop in
Hamlyn in Germany. This provides
employment in the communities we operate.
An electric sewing machine was donated to
us and given to a seamstress in Alavanyo
Dzogbedze to train her apprentices in the
use of electric as well as hand machines.
The website continues to be accessed
regularly and has been viewed in excess of
30,000 times.
It is regularly updated and blogs are
regularly posted. Comments have been
made about the positive way we keep
individual donors aware of our activities
through this medium.
We have started using wider social media
such as Facebook, Instagram and X to
disseminate information.

Achievements against
objectives set

Para 1.41

We have succeeded in completing most of
the projects we have been working on in this
period and will continue to work on those
unfinished projects when funds are
available.
Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives
set
Para 1.41 We succeeded in raising sufficient funds for
the projects we were involved in this year.
Investment performance
against objectives
Para 1.41 We do not invest any monies.
Other It is worth noting that when trustees visit the
projects in Ghana their flights and some of
the costs of accommodation and travel are
met by the individual trustees. We do not
feel it is right that donated monies are used
for this.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 The financial position at the end of the year
shows that the charity is a viable proposition.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 There are no reserves as such in that
monies are carried over from one year to the
next and spent on projects the following
year. No expenditure is undertaken without
funds being available.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 None
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 Have no ongoing liabilities that would need
reserves to be called on. If we do not have
sufficient funds for a project to be finished
we put the project on hold until the funds are
raised from individual or larger donors.
Details of fund materially in
deficit
Para 1.24 N/A
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
Para 1.23 There are no uncertainties about the viability
of the charity continuing as a going concern.

Additional information (optional) You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:

The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)

Para 1.47

We have raised £5,800 from The Green Hall
and Souter foundations and a further £7,766
from individual donors.
The number of donors giving regularly has
increased.
We are also raising funds by attending craft
fairs selling items made by seamstresses in
the communities we operate in, though this
is more of an awareness raising exercise
than a good fundraising exercise. We are
grateful for receiving Gift Aid from HMRC
Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted
Para 1.46 N/A

The continued ability to raise funds is the main risk as the sector is extremely tight. If we are unable to raise funds we will scale back on the number of projects we start. A description of the principal risks facing the charity Para 1.46 Other
