In doing so,we have honoured
ovr mission, of pifaritising
and supporting
the welfare ofqueer Muslims,
many who may not be openly queer
alada by vakxtlews, around their family and thus would have lacked a safe space were itnat
for Hidayah. We have shone a light on many issues that often ga ignored

ed when discussing
LGBTQlr rights. We have delved into
the nuances ofcofourism, transmisogynyand
anti-Blackness,
speaking
with an array ofqueer Muslims from various backgrounds,

Throughout
the workl's worst puBic health
criidis in living memory,
we
have been acutely aware ofthe inequalities
exacerbated
by the
pandemic's
fockdowns
and restrictions on in-person
suppart. We have
adapted tothis admirably,
keeping up asteady stree m ofvirtual events
and projects which have helped sustain asense ofsolidarity and
belonging ta a group that can often struggle to reconcile two parts of
their identities.
In short, queer Muslims may feel ovt af place or like they need to
suppress their faith in queer spaces, where being a person offaith is
canflated
with an assumption
that religion isInherently
oppressive,
bvt
they may also aot feel like they belong
In Muslim spaces, where
queerness
isseen as incompatible
with Islam. The Hldayah
website has
resources that answer these questions, that examine reggious scripture
and delve into the spedfics ofhaw islam and queerness
can coexist
harmoniausty.
