Para 1.18 All the trustees, guided by the Charity

the public benefit the shed will provide. In
this third year we continued to fundraise
towards that end and completed the
construction and fitting out by March 2023.

Additional information (optional) You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:

SORP reference
Policy on grant making Para 1.38 The CIO is not a grant making charity
Policy on social investment
including program related
investment
Para 1.38 The CIO has an account with the Market
Harborough Building Society where grants
were held in readiness for the shed’s
construction and equipment. Any interest
earned has been added to the construction
and equipment fund. In December 2022 the
trustees opened a bank account with
Lloyds Bank to take advantage of internet
banking and to streamline the financial
systems.
Contribution made by
volunteers
Para 1.38 The steering group of 6 members
continued to meet fortnightly for an hour
and half all year to progress the shed
construction and development. Additionally,
volunteers have gathered tools and
equipment, applied for grants, and held
meetings with a wide range of individuals
and agencies. Once the workshop was
completed, volunteers worked to decorate,
to build the kitchen area, assemble tools
and dust extraction equipment in order to
be able to open the workshop. Volunteers
stepped up again when our chair, Brian
Dunn, died suddenly in August 2022,
developing policies, procedures,
membership policies, training manuals and
training each other on the new equipment

Achievements and Performance

SORP
reference
Summary of the
main achievements
of the charity,
identifying the
difference the
charity’s work has
made to the
circumstances of its
beneficiaries and
any wider benefits to
society as a whole.
Para 1.20 By the end of April 2022, we had a steel building with
internal walls and electrics and plumbing, with solar
panels installed.
Volunteers then completed the fit out and a formal soft
opening was held in June 2022 with councillors from
North Northants Council and Corby Town Council.
Volunteers continued to work on setting up the
workshop and building the complex array of power
tools and dust extraction equipment.
Following Brian’s death, the trustees and volunteers
took stock and pressed ahead with getting the
workshop functioning as we had planned. Through this
period, we were able to host a range of arts and crafts
masterclasses with visiting creatives, including a
week-long residency in the October half term. This
drew in a wider group of new members and the choice
of Patchwork Pals to use the craft room as a base for
their regular textiles sessions has diversified the
workshop’s membership.
By the end of March 2023, we had around 70
members, men and women of all ages, from
Kingswood and Hazel Leys and the wider area.
Members share skills and knowledge and try new tools
and techniques, from sewing machines to
woodworking, jewellery making to 3d printing.
One of our members Andrew Carroll has made three
short films that illuminate the changes that the
workshop has brought to people’s lives.

Finally, we have a major new asset for Kingswood and
Hazel Leys and Corby that will continue to make a
difference in the years ahead.

Reasons for holding zero

stage we are not yet able to build up and
hold reserves.

objectives including any

Para 1.46 The CIO’s principal asset is the Workshop
a purpose-built three-room steel building
equipped with 16 solar panels and a wide
range of woodworking, DIY, art, sewing, 3D
printing and photography equipment as well
as a space to prepare refreshments. Our
aim is to use this asset to invest in people
sharing skills, time and conversation.
Members can choose to work on individual
and community projects.
A description of the principal
risks facing the charity
Para 1.46 The principal risk is failing to attract
sufficient funds either in the form of grants
or through membership fees and sales of
work. To date we have been reasonably
successful in pursuing grant funding
opportunities and delivering on our
proposals to funders. We have built a
strong partnership with KHL Big Local,
Corby Community Arts, Made with Many,
the Core Theatre, Groundwork Northants
as well as working closely with North
Northants Council.
