| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | The Club worked collaboratively with its members this year to develop a 5-year Strategic Plan. In addition to measures to improve its own culture and facilities, the plan includes a commitment to engage further with its local community. Outreach work with local schools included a pilot programme which involved teaching disadvantaged young people to row in order to improve fitness and motivation for learning. Our facilities were shared with several other rowing clubs across the country to help with their training programmes. Improvements were made to the operation of Open Events we organise for racing on the river Dee, including a greater emphasis on feedback from participants. These events provide a showcase for the sport to local residents. The main achievement of the charity continues to be offering the opportunity of healthy exercise to residents of Chester and surrounding areas. Our Learn to Row courses attracted 70 adults (67% women) during this period of whom over 75% chose to continue with rowing compared with less than 50% previously. The Summer School programme involved 66 young people (42% girls) learning to row helped by 10 coaches and 24 junior helpers. |
