STAND AGAINST MND ANNUAL RETURN FINANCIAL YEAR ENDING 30 MARCH 2021

Stand Against MND was formed in January 2020 by Sam Perkins following his diagnosis of motor neurone disease (MND) the in March 2019. The purpose of the charity is two-fold: (1) to raise funds and awareness to support research into a cure for MND and (2) to provide funds to palliative care services that assist those who are affected by MND, including those diagnosed with MND, but also their family and friends.

Since its formation, the charity has achieved its objectives through a range of fundraising activities and promotional events including: Christmas campaigns, selling bespoke art work, Sam personally appearing on TV and radio broadcasts, and of course the support of individual fundraisers such as Team SAM participating in the East Leake Triathlon, virtual cycling challenges and running marathons. Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, we have had to become more creative in how we achieve our objectives. We are pleased that we and our supporters have risen to that challenge!

A message from our founder, Sam Perkins:

“Being diagnosed with MND at the age of 37 was devastating. The offers of help and support which flooded in from family and friends as they shared in my shock gave me a great deal of comfort. With support from my wife Emma, we decided to a harness that goodwill and attempt to make a difference for the MND community and the future prospects for treatments for the disease.

Founding Stand Against MND is a point of great pride, but little could we have known that

our first year of existence would coincide with a global pandemic. This created huge challenges for all charities and destroyed plans which we had for our first year.

I would like to take this opportunity then, to place on record my thanks to the trustees, our fundraisers, supporters and donors for delivering an exceptional first year. The dedication and imagination everyone continues to show is inspiring, providing a plentiful source of fuel in my own Stand Against MND. Thank you and here’s to our continued success.”
