Age UK South Kant Coast Trustees. report Icontlnuedl For the year ended 31 Mar¢h 2025 Aehlèvements and performanca Icontlnuad) Financial revi¥w . Golng concern Through very ¢areful mariagement and a great deal of hard work, Age UK South Kent Coast has made a SUTpIus In 2024 25 despite the pre5SUTes due lo the continued high inflallon, hlgh pay awards to the Natiorial Living Wagts and general higher operational costs. The trustees have a reasonable expgotstion that Age UK South Kent Coast has adequate rasourc8s and reserves lo continue in operallon for the for@s88ab futur8. We are infomied that the Communlty Navlgator contract with Kent County Council bwll be maintained until Ihg end of the financial yeaT 2025126 and the Well-Being Contract will probably be rnaintained again until the end ol the financlal year 2025126 onlywhich allows ts'me to plan for the inèvitable change in the se1viS we can offer. Changes within thg structure aTid practices of the charity are already being introducèd to maximise 8ny Savings available which will result in some redundanciès. Discussions are continuing to take place to kKJk at thè potantial opportunllies after the end of these major contracts should they not be renewed again. b. R•$èrves pollcy As part of its risk assessrnent strategy, the board has examined the Chariws requirements lor reserves in tho li9ht of th$ current economic situation. The Board has oslablished a policy WhebY the reserves of the Charity rseed lo be sufficient lo ensure the orderly closure of the Charfty should this becorne necessary. The Board has agreed that 3 months Running Costs is an appropriate level to be held in reserve which equates lo £340,000. This is ¢omfortably eXeded In the Capital held In our Investment Portfolio and in tree reserves which is currently £854,000. The reserves policy is revlewed annually against the charity's risk PTofile and the current economic climate lo ensure Ihal the amount held in r8$9Tves is in line with the charills objectives. While the current level of reseNes greatly exceeds the policy, the board feels that this wll allow the charity to weather any upcoming shocks stjch os the loss of the KCC contracts, and is therefore in line with the stated reserves policy. Whilst. th$re is an expectation for the Charity to produce a loss in the year 2025126. economies and effioencies have already been introduced and the expectation is that th81055 will be 5ubslanlially less than expected so the Reserves Policy level will not be breached. c. Invostmènt Policy and Perforniance The incomo and capital of the Trust fund shall only be applled to the promotion of the Charills objectives. The Trustees invest surplus funds in vaflOU5 secure financial instiluflons to wn8ximise investment potential and provide flexibility of access so that funds are readily available when needod. We have appointed FAS Ltd laccredlte¢J financial advisers) to advlse on our investment with the aim of maintain and increasing the ¢apltal value of the investment and also providing some extra Income through dividends. The board re1ve regular updates on thè performance of the portfolio. d. Key Flnanclal Perfomiace Indlcators At the start of the financlal year, the Trustees agree a bltdget for each of the key activities. It was a¢cepted that, due lo the exceptional ffinanaal dtfficultigs. the over811 budget expected a significant loss. However. due lo outstanding work by all the Charitls staff led by the Chief ExecLrtive and her t)eputy. Age UK South Kent Coast has posted 8 small surplus for Ihe year ending 31st Match 2025. The Board receives monthly update$ on rinancial performance again51 the agreed budget. The report highli9htS Bny significant vaii8tions from tho budget and the Board agrees whatèvèr mitigating action should be taken. In this context the 6xlia grant support from Age UK, Dover District Counal and Folkestone anl Hythe District Council was invaluable in allowing the Tnjslees to agree the continualv)n of activities wilhoul challenging tho fsnancial viability of the organisation.
