INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE

ELGAR FESTIVAL

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Elgar Festival, Worcester for the six months ended 30th September 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of the report

As trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the trustees’ accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 145(5) (b) of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:-

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

APPENDIX TO THE ANNUAL REPORT FOR YEAR ENDED 30TH SEPTEMBER 2023 - FINANCIAL REVIEW

The 2023 festival was held in early June, at the traditional time close to Elgar’s birthday.

The 2023 festival was supported by a grant from the Arts Council of £44,231 as well as Local Authority grants amounting to £14,550 and private income from trusts and foundations of £39,372. The festival is very appreciative of these grants and donations. Total income was £113,107, which includes sales of tickets and programmes.

The total cost of putting on the festival was £105,710, which includes artists, the orchestra, venue hire and other associated costs.

As at 30th September 2023 the festival had £16,164 in its current account at Barclays Bank.
