Objectives and Activities

Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document	Para 1.17	The objects of the Mount Elgon Foundation, being undertaken for the public benefit in the Mount Elgon region and more widely in the republic of Kenya and the republic of Uganda, are: 1. the conservation of endangered elephants and their protection from extinction in particular, but not exclusively, by providing financial and other aid to support programs with the objective of protecting, monitoring, and advancing the conservation of those elephants; and 2. to further other such exclusively charitable purposes, which are charitable under the law of England and Wales, as the trustees may from time to time determine.
Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts.	Para 1.17 and 1.19	The main activity of the Mount Elgon Foundation for the period has been to fund the Mount Elgon Elephant Project that seeks to protect the elephants of Mount Elgon in western Kenya and to promote sustainable livelihoods for the local community.

Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.	Para 1.20	The difference the Foundation’s work has made to its beneficiaries was to provide protection to the elephants of Mount Elgon and to provide support for sustainable livelihoods for local people. As regards benefits to society as a whole, the preservation of the ecosystem of Mount Elgon, given its key water tower role and large forested areas, is the provision of water to many millions of people regionally, while carbon sequestration by the forest provides an important benefit to the worldwide community.

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period	Para 1.21	The charity holds c.£44k (c.£35k FY24) in cash funds with Barclays Bank, and a further c. £9k (c.£14k FY24) in cash funds with two overseas funds. These funds and funds raised since 31/3/25 give the Trustees confidence for the year ahead.

Charlty number: 1186668 Res onsibilities and basis of re ort I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity for the year ended 31 March 2024. As the charity trustees. you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act 20111.the Act"). I report in respect of my examination of the charity's account5 carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examlnation, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 1451511bl of the Act. Inde endent examiner's statement I have completed my examlnation. I confirm that no material matters have ¢ome to my attention in connettion with the examlnation which gives me cause to belleve that in, any material respect.. the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act,. or the accounts did not accord with the accounting records,. or the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concernin@ the form and ontent of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fairf view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
