General information

The Trustees present their annual report and the accounts of Leicester MusicFest for the year ended 5 April 2023.

Leicester MusicFest is a charitable incorporated organisation registered in England and Wales, and governed by a written constitution. Leicester MusicFest was founded in 2016 and obtained registered charity status on 28 November 2019. Its registered charity number is 1186629.

The principal address of Leicester MusicFest is 1 Eastwood Road, Leicester LE2 8DD.

The Trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the public benefit guidance issued by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

Objectives

Leicester MusicFest has the following objectives:

Review of the year

The sixth festival was held in February 2023 and included the following events:

The trustees were delighted by the level of support for this sixth festival. Hundreds of children and amateur performers took part in our competitions, workshops and masterclasses, and attendees enjoyed an incredibly high standard of music-making across all ages and abilities including the grand finale of the Gala Concert featuring winners of the amateur competitions alongside world premieres of the winning compositions..

Future events

Leicester MusicFest 2024 will take place between 16 and 18 February 2024, once again in the wonderful facilities at English Martyrs' Catholic School.

Reserves policy

The policy of the Trustees is to maintain sufficient reserves to provide working capital for future events and to meet any expenses as they fall due.

Risk management

The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate these risks.

Patronage and Support

The Trustees are grateful for the support of Patrons, Friends, Donors and Volunteers without which the festival could not take place.

NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS Year ended 5 April 2023

1. Presentation of receipts

For the year ended 5 April 2022, Tickets (door), Cafe and Buckets were presented as a single total. For the year ended 5 April 2023, these amounts have been presented separately.

2. Restricted Funds Receipts & Payments

During the year, a donation of £2,500 was received from Leicestershire and Rutland Freemasons Charity for the purpose of funding the set up of the Musicfest Outdoor Music Centre Project. £2,500 is held as a restricted fund at the year end.

During the year, a donation of £2,500 was received from The Masonic Charitable Foundation for the purpose of funding the set up of the Musicfest Outdoor Music Centre Project. £2,500 is held as a restricted fund at the year end.

During the year, a donation of £500 was received from The Helen Jean Cope Charity for the purpose of funding administration costs for Leicester Musicfest. £500 is held as a restricted fund at the year end.

During the year, a donation of £200 was received from The Royal College of Organists for the purpose of sponsorship for the 2022 Leicester MusicFest organ events. £200 of this was expended during the 2021/22 tax year.

During the year, £250 was expended on the 2023 Leicester MusicFest Organ events. The Royal College of Organists have pledged to donate £250 for this purpose to be received in the 2023/24 tax year.

During the year, a donation of £450 was received from The Blaby Rotary Club for the purpose of funding the 2023 Leicester MusicFest Gala Concert. £450 of this was expended during the year.
