Chairman’s Annual Report

ATHERTON CRICKET CLUB LIMITED Company number 12108979 Registered charity 1186443

9th February 2023

Name Atherton Cricket Club Limited Address Eckersley Fold Lane, Manchester M46 0RQ. Trustees Anthony Gredecki, Ian Andrew Nuttall, Michael Simon Tomlinson, Paul William Woodend.

The trustees of the charity were appointed from the existing members of the club’s management committee agreed at a committee meeting in December 2019.

The goals of the charity are to provide a high standard cricket facility for the members of Atherton Cricket Club and a community facility for the people of Atherton for the mutual benefit of all, in line with ECB Club mark requirements, charity commission obligations and legislative guidelines.

Activities and achievements in the year:

2022 was a very special year in the history of Atherton Cricket Club as the club celebrated its 150th Anniversary.

During the year, the club held a number of events to celebrate this significant milestone the highlights of which were a celebratory Dinner held just before the start of the season and a past players game during the season.

Throughout the year the club has continued to develop its facilities and is well placed in all areas to continue its progression on and off the field.

Key achievement includes:

Senior Cricket 2022:

On the cricket field the senior teams enjoyed a mixed season in terms of performance. The Fist XI started the year strongly, but due to a number of factors including injury and availably the players didn’t reach the levels that they had set themselves at the outset.

The Second XI continued to develop and once again were responsible for the development of a number of junior players that graduated into the First team and continued to show promise.

The highlight of the senior section however, was success of the Third XI who, under the guidance of a young captain aged 17 and a shrewd team Manager in Paul O’Neil, managed to win the West Lancashire Premier Division League Title. The achievement was particularly impressive as the nucleus of the team throughout the season was made up of junior players who having been given the opportunity to display their talents took their chance to shine and excelled.

I would like to take the opportunity to place on record my gratitude to first, second and third team captains Joshua Gilluley, Tom Mather and Charlie Gredecki for their tremendous contributions to the senior section. All three have led their teams with great passion, dedication and skill throughout the year and have been a credit to themselves and the club.

Junior Cricket 2022:

Within the junior section the club entered teams at under 9s, under 11s, under 13s and under 15s age groups.

The juniors enjoyed a tremendous year on and off the pitch with a strong identity developing amongst the players in every team and an understanding and pride in the values of our club being displayed positively.

All junior teams had successful seasons on the pitch with highlights being the U9s collecting silverware at out 150th Anniversary game, the U11s Winning their league section final, the U13s finishing runners up in the league and the U15s winning their respective league section cup final in emphatic fashion.

The success of the junior section is in no small part to the commitment and dedication of the junior coaches headed by our Director of Junior Cricket Greg Greenough and the players, parents and club owe a great deal of gratitude to them.

The club also successfully ran our All-Stars program, culminating in 36 children signing up to the sessions. The session ran from May through to August in line with ECB plans. Following the conclusion of the official program the club continued to offer training sessions free of charge to children from the local community. The program continues to play an important role introducing boys and girls to our sport and moving into 2023 under the leadership of Hassan Ahmed will continue to be an integral part of our club.
