Chair Report for Charity Commission Annual Report for Y/E 30 Sept 2022 Sustoinobility The trustee a nd committee work continues and includes reviewing and managing governance, safety, welfare, tra ining provision, providing rowing for all mem bers of the club, insurance, providing a web site, ema il communication a nd a newsletter. The Trustee, Committee and Officer positions are al I carried out by volunteers who devote a large chunk of time to the management of the Club. We are constantly seeking new 'blood' to help and keep Helford alive to the chal lenges it faces. The club trustees and committee are working and developing structure a nd procedures to mainta in and improve governa nce and ma nagement of the club. The Trustees settling into their roles are now meeting with better information from the management committee. This has enabled the Boa rd of Trustees to be more focussed on the Objects of the charity and ensuri ng we remai n complaint to our Constitution. Risk There have been no reported accidents during the period, though there have been a few 'near-misses'. Ivlembership The club still represents a mix of age and ability, and we feel that we meet our objectives of providing hea Ithy recreation for all the community. The mix however is not idea l as shown in the membershi p analysis. We need to address this and will be actively seeking to encourage involvement and commitment of male and young rowers. Our junior membership grew during the year with a welcome influx of young and able rower5 aged the 12 to 13. Many of the 'old hand, Juniors have passed over to be Cadets and are actively pursui ng trai ning and competitive rowing. A total of 21 members took the 2-day theory and on- water training. Additional courses will be pla nned for 2023. Resources The club continues to ensure that it maintains its faci lities a nd equipment. To this end we have a very proactive maintenance pol icy. Bob, Johnnie and team continue their excellent work on the maintenance of the gigs, oars, trolleys and trailers. Both Morgawr a nd Helford are in good condition and require limited wi nter maintena nce. The split in one of Morgawr's planks was repaired by Peter Williams in August. Pedn Billy after two seasons of relatively heavy use on the Helford by the Club members requires a sand and revarnish interna Ily. Oars need some work, and the trailers are all in good order. Plans a Iso move forward on the sale of land to assist with the development of our clubhouse facility at Gweek. Planning has been granted and a 106 decla ration has been signed such that we can soon offer the land for sale through a n agent. Communication A big thank you goes out to Rachel Ratcliffe who has put in a tremendous amount of effort redeveloping the web site and membership system. In addition, we have a Newsletter that, although recently on-hold due to all the web development, will be sent out monthly or every two months. Sponsorship Cl ub racing vests were provided by Rosemul lion for al l Helford crews entering events this yea r. We thank Rosemullion for their support with this a nd for providing gin and rum at the M ini Scil lies and Scil lies events. Rosemull ion is a small fa mily-run business set i n the orchard of an 1870s Cornish house. close to the Helford River. Since launchi ng in 2018 they have

won numerous national and i nternationa I gold awards for thei r home-produced ra nge of Cornish gins, rums a nd spirits. Launch Ftycilities Tom & Nigel Bl igh allow us to store and launch our two/three gigs from their foreshore IPedn Bil ly Beach). This exceptional concession allows us to row throughout the year without the need to tow a nd launch. We would like to say a massive thank you to all in the club who make her such an enjoyable club to be a member of. The committee150me retired) and trustees have put in an exceptional amount of work to maintai n a nd drive forward our club in these uncertain times. We have an incredible club, a nd it is an honour to be involved in helping to ma nage the Cl ub.
