| Devizes Lions Club raises significant funds throughout the year from its |
| fundraising activities. Some of those activities, such as the annual concert |
and | ||||||

| benefit from a substantial contribution to their funds. The general funds that |
| the Club raises through other fundraising activities are used to provide grants |

| The Ob'ects of Devizes Lions Club | |||||
| Under the terms ofthe Clubs' Constitution, the Trustees apply funds at their |
| discretion, making grants where they believe that their contribution will make a |
| real difference. The Club only makes grants in furtherance of its charitable |
| objects. The Objects ofthe Club are shown earlier in this document. |
| Priorities for Su ort |
| The number ofapplications that can be supported is limited by the amount |
of | ||||
| funds available for distribution in any one year. The Trustees have determined |
| that the priorities for funding will be: |
| -subject to other elements ofthe Trustees' grant-making policy, no restrictions |
| are imposed on the purpose for which a grant may be made. |
| - as there are numerous Lions Clubs in the UK, applications from Devizes |
and | ||||
| the surrounding area are generally given priority. Trustees also consider |
| national and international funding requests. |
| - applications for support and/or grants are all considered on their own merits |
| following investigation by the Club's Welfare Committee. However, given |
that | ||||
| most ofthe available funds are raised within the local community, those |
| applications that are local are given special consideration. |
| - using the above guiding principles, the following are examples ofareas |
| adopted for support: | |||||
| You may choose to include further statements, |

| volunteers. | |||||
| In addition to making grants set out above, the Club supports and puts on |
| events to benefit and serve the local community. It also makes grants without |
| receiving applications where the Trustees decide that the need is appropriate. |
| The above priorities in this policy will be reviewed every year (or more often if |
| deemed appropriate) by the Trustees and may be changed in accordance |
with | ||||
| the Trustees' view ofthe most effective application of available funds at any |
| point in time. |
| ~Princi les |
| In awarding grants, the Trustees will apply the following principles: |
| The Trustees will not normally support applications from large national |
| charities (unless it is for local use) or charities deemed by the Trustees |
| to be already adequately funded. |
| The Trustees may work with other organisations to fund initiatives |
| beyond the financial scope ofa single organisation. | |||||
| Applications from previous recipients ofgrants or from previously |
| unsuccessful applications will be considered by the Trustees on their |
| own merits. Although the Trustees will have regard to the outcome |
of | ||||
| the previous grant, any new application will not receive preferential |
or | ||||
| adverse consideration. |
| Exclusions | |
|---|---|
| The Trustees will not normally approve the use offunds for purposes which |
| government has a statutory responsibility to provide. |
| Grant A lication Process |
| Applications for grants may be made by any effective means and will be |
| considered by the Welfare Committee on behalf ofthe Trustees. |
| Before awarding a grant, the Trustees require that the applicant should: |
| inform the Trustees ofthe purpose ofthe application, details ofthe |
| project, the way in which the grant will be used and how it will be |
| managed effectively for its intended purpose. |
| provide adequate information regarding the identity and financial status |
| ofthe applicant and/or ofthe status ofthe person(s) who will carry out |
| the project/work. | |
| note that all equipment purchased with the grant is owned and remains |
| the property ofthe recipient (whether an organisation or an individual). |
| consent to the use ofpersonal data supplied by them for the |
| processing and review oftheir application in order to comply with |
| current Data Protection legislation. This includes transfer to and use by |
| such individuals and organisations as the Trustees deem appropriate. |
| The Trustees require the assurance ofthe applicant that personal data |
| about any other individual is supplied to the Trustees with his/her |
| consent. | |
| Assessment Process |
| The assessment process will be: |
| All applications for grants will be subject to initial assessment to ensure |
| that they meet the basic criteria for funding. | |
| The Welfare Committee will consider applications and, where approval |
| is recommended, seek the Trustees' agreement and will inform |
| applicants ofthe outcome of applications as soon as is reasonably |
| practicable. | |
| Whilst the Trustees will not be obliged to provide an explanation to |
the |
| applicant should its application be unsuccessful they will provide |
| relevant comment to the applicant where appropriate. |
| Applicants should note that the Trustees receive far more applications |
| than they have funds to support. Even if an application fits with the |
| criteria and priorities ofthe Trustees, they may still be unable to provide |
| a grant. | |
| Monitorin and Publicit |
| Where the grant is for an extended period, the Trustees may require project |
| progress to be reported on a regular basis. In addition to reports detailing |
| progress, grant recipients may be asked to provide a statement of how the |
| grant has been spent. This may be by a report in writing or given in person |
to |
| the Trustees, or by a visit ofthe Trustees to view the project. | |
| The Trustees may ask applicants to consent to the use oftheir information |
and |
| project details for publicity purposes, including on-line, in print or otherwise. |
