Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

During 2022 the membership of the club returned back down to prepandemic levels. We lost a number of members who joined the club when indoor activities such as gyms were closed, or people preferred to be outdoors.

The club has kept close control of outgoings this year particularly the use of energy as the prices rose throughout the year. The conversion of the floodlights to LEDs the previous year significantly reduced our electricity consumption and hence cost.

The main expenditure, in line with our long-term plan, was the resurfacing of 3 of our courts with the same carpet covering that we currently had. In addition, we took the opportunity to cover our mini court with carpet to improve the safety for our juniors and disabled players who are the main users of that facility.

We are planning to increase our contribution to our sinking fund in 2023 due to the high level of inflation experienced towards the end of the year 2022. We will be looking to replace the surface on our remaining 3 courts in 2024/25.

We held a Learning Disability Tournament, followed by a barbecue, in the summer which attracted over 20 participants. It was attended by the Mayor of Bournemouth and the President of the Boscombe and Southbourne Rotary Club

Our head coach has been appointed by the Dorset LTA as the county lead for disability tennis coaching.

We have bought the equipment to trial Pickleball on our mini court and hope to start a club session in the summer of 2023. Pickleball is a variant of tennis and is more suitable for less mobile individuals. It is mainly a summer sport in the UK due to the weather.
