Objectives and Activities:
Objectives Preserving vessels and artefacts which illustrate and explain the history and heritage of the waterways
Providing the public with access to the waterways for the purposes of education
Undertaking research into the waterways, the useful results of which will be published for the public benefit
Main activities Publication and maintenance of a website, including digitisation of photographs, documents and spoken word histories, and publishing of research
Attendance at events, programme of talks and presentations for community groups.
Organisation of educational workshops
Purchase of equipment to assist in public research
Public Benefit
The Trustees confirm that the charity operates for the public benefit under Section 4 of the Charities Act 2011
Achievements and Performance:
During the financial year 01.11.2024 to 31.10.2025, the YWHS has:

Purchased a microfilm reader and arranged for it to be made available for public use and research in Goole Library

Continued to digitise photographs for public access on the society’s website, including the Grayburn album

Published documents, books and films and digitised oral history recordings on the society’s website

Given 8 public talks

Attended events including Goole Hobbies Exhibition and the Yorkshire Heritage Summit

Run a programme of 10 summer heritage workshops
-
Employed a freelance communication assistant to extend our reach on social media and provide supporters with a monthly newsletter

Joined with other Goole based community groups to develop plans for the bicentenary celebrations, including organising a flotilla of vessels.
