PUBLIC BENEFIT When planning our activities for the year. the PCC has considered the Charity Commissp'S guidance on Public Benefft and the suppkn)entary guidance on Charities for the Advancement of RelvJion. In particular. we try to enable people to Irrfe out their faith as part of our parish communty through Worship 8nd prayer: leaming aut the Gospel and developing their knowledge and trust in Jesus. through the provision of pastoral care for people living in the parish and through missionary and outreach VKKk. Our aChVernents and perfance in the year are set out in the next se¢lK*ns of this Report. To facilttate all this work. rt is important that we care for and maintsin the Churches of St. Mary's and St. John's. ACHIEVEMENT AND PERF NCE Wornhlp and Prayer The PCC is keen to offer a range of services and activrtK8s during the week and over th8 course of the year that people in our Parish find both benefla1 and Spirrtually fulfilling. St. Mary's 1$ open for publ¢ worship every Sunday moming an 11.00am Hoty Communion or Moming Prayer Service or an All Together lo Worship Ser¥e aimed principally at Childn and Young Famili88. On the first Sunday of each month. a BCP Hoty Communion or Moming Prayer Service is held at Sl. Mary's at 8 00 am. St. Mary's was also open for worship at 10.30arn every Thursday for a BCP Holy Communh)n or Moming Prayer Sen1 and at 3.45pm every Thursday during school term time, for Lyhthou8e Family Church. a 8en40 PTincipally directed to Children and Young Familw. The 11.00 am Sunday service$ were videoed and uploaded to our P8d8h Facebook page and YouTube so that they coukl be shared with the communty. Sl. Mary's is. of course, open on all Festival Days like Easter and Christma8. In 2025, we provided our full Easter celebrat¥)n Sepiices and the full range of our Chrlslmas celebration services. St. Mary's is on to the put4ic for private prayer and refflectn every day from 10.1))am to 4.00pm. A Prayer Station has been made 8vaiLqble in church where visrtors can pray and reflect and, if they wish. light a prayer candle. Al Christmas time, Ihe porch of Sl. Mary's was decorated wrth a Prayer Tree Whe visitor5 could leave thr prayers and messages, and many peopbe availed themselves of this. In addrtion lo making St. Mary's available to tt)e public for worship and private wayer and rellection as part of our Mission Statement, we are commrtted also to promoling and publicising the history and archrtectural and ujttural heritage of St. Mwy's la Grade Il. Llsted Building) from its construction over 500 years ago, in 1524, as a small Chantry Chapel to its presenl status as Disley Pansh Church. Infomation regarding this history. archilectural and cultural heritage is provKled for visrtors inside the Church. We have atso Instal in St. Mary's for the benefrt of visitors (wrth the assistance of a granl from the Natn81 Heritage Lottery Fund) an INFOPOINT system which enables visltors to be taken on a history tour of St. Mary's using their mobile phones. In addrtion. 8 8enes of short videos were published on social media to promote St. Mary's and bring the church Into the communty.

The"Messy Church. sessions were attended by an average of 25 young familw and their chihjren. A monthty Hoty COmmunn Service is held at one of the Retirement Hom8s in the Parish, Dystlegh Grange, for the residents and is well Tlved by them. In addition, we were pleased to provide for the residents and staff a Remembrance Servts and a Christingle SeThice. A Home GrouplPrayer Group is provided in the Parish ft)r Bible Study, prayer and fellowship and this met regularty during the year. All are welcome to attend any of our services and the Hom& Prayer Group. At present. the are 56 parishioners on the Church Electoral Roll, 9 of whom are not reslent within the Parish. The average weekly attendance at St. Mary's for our main Sunday seNice was 30145 and at St. John's vras S. As well as our regular services, w8 8nabl8 our communty to celd>rate and thank God at the milestones of the journey through life. Through Baptism we thank God for the gift of lrfe. In Marriage public vows are exchanged with God's blessing and through Funeral seNices friends and famity express their grief and give thanks for the lrfe which is now complele in this world and to commend the person into God's keeping. In 2025 we held 6 Baptism Services. 14 Funeral Services and 7 Intemients of Ashes in the year. We were also pleased to enable the l¢xal community to come together lo comm6m¢Jrale Remembrance Sunday bolh at the Disley and Fumes$ Vale War Memorials and in our two Churches. In November 2025. St. Mary's held a 'RememberiThJ Service" for th08e recentty bereaved and St. John's was pleased to host the kxal communty'chri8tm88 Tree Lighting. In Fume$$ Vale. St. Mary's was delighted in 2025 to hold the annual Disley Clvlc ser11 and to provide the catering for the Civic ReptIOn afteThvards and ils celebration of the achievements of the local Disley communty. Our full programme ofAdvent and Chrfstrnas Servlces vme held, and the services were broadc88t to the ccrtnmunity on y( Tube and Facebk. As in previous years, Disley Parish held a number of'christs'ngle Services. St. Ma$ hosted one for the local Disley children and their parents and further $8rvic8s were provided lor the residen1$ of Dystlegh Grange Retiremenl Home and the pupils of High Peak School, a school wrthin Ihe Parish for chiklren with special needs. Sl. John's provided Christingle Services for the pupils at Fumess Vale Primary SchocA and Newtown Primary School. Further Christingle Servres were provhjed for the local Scouts and Cubs when they visited St. Mary's Christmas Tm Festival in December. Offertori8s received for Ihe Christs'ngle Services were donated to The Chiklren's Society.
Ml8sion, Evangelism and Toaching Over recent years the PCC has committed cortsiJeratAe resource and effort to our ministry to Children and Young Families in the Parish. In additron to Ihe weekty Lighthouse Family Church servi at St. Mary's and the monthly "Messy Church". all directed at chiklren and yourKJ families, we were ab lo provide Christian teaching at Scht)ol Assemblies in the Pnmary SChIs in the Parish, Disley Ptimary School, Newtown Primary School and Fumess Va18 Primary School. We also contlnued teaching at the schools through "Open the Book.. a presentstion ot Stories from the Ble through drama. A successful St. Mary's Tots Group continued to thrive. held weekty at the Disley Community Centre. In January 2025. the Vicar iogether with other church members. lead an Alpha Course enabling persons curious ab)ut the ChristMn farth to explore il together. Following the course, we We delighted to see some members going forward to Confimialion al a Confirmalion Service hdd at St. Marfs w6th Bishop Mar Ashcroft in Novembèr 2025. To teach a wider aUdnCe about the period of40 days leading up to Easter. St. Marfs in March 2025, hosted "Expenence Lenf which look the form of six stations or lableaux's around the church describing the observances by Christians during Lent wrth 80MpanY1ng narrative. We were pleased to have pupiFs and staff from Disley Primery School and High Peak School attend Sl. Mary's to explore this 'Experience" and hear the Lenten Story. Disley Primary School and High Peak School, over 200 pupils attended each Of"ExpenCe Lent" and°ExperEnce Harvest.. In May 2025. we were pleased to assist, both practicalty and financialty, Christians in Schools Twst to hold workshops in Disley Primary School to help Year 6 pupils mov& from Primary lo Secondary schools arrfl to wovlde to pupil wtth a helpful twklet as a gfft from St. Mary's. We were able during the year to further our link$ wrth the Iwal Scout group. 1 st Disloy Scouts, when the Vicar was able lo asstst Wbth activi for the Cubs and Beaver sections of the group. At Christmas, St. held a Christinas Tr88 Festival whh 23 k)cal groups and organisalions participated. Christian Aid and Friends of the Hoty Land. The PCC'S Mission Sub Commrttee seeks to kyomote and publicBe the 8£tNrties and work of the various Mission Partners we Support by Infonnatn on Missions Board displayed in the churches. by articles in the '_mon1hty "InTouch" newSer, through prayer and by arranging for speakers from the Missions lo come to the Parish and speak at the churches. We were de1hled in 2025 when a member of our thurch famlty was acpted and went forward for Lay Reader training. Pastoral Car• The Vlcar and our two P88tor81 Workers lead our Postor81 Work kn the Parish. They provide. al home or in hospital or nursing home. Hoty Communion for those membets of our church families who are unable to attend church due to SknesS or age. They visit those who ar8 sick or unable to get oul for any other reason to pray wrth them and keep Ihem in touch wtth church life. The Pastoral Workers pfovKle pasloral care arKI ministry to the chlldren and young famllles, help famllies in the preparatbn for Baptisms arKI assist at éach Baptism SeNIc8, Ber88vement is always a difficult time for those affected. The Pastoral Team will make contact with each bereaved family and FKovide cwe and a88iStance to them before, during and after the funeral service. As referred to above, we hold a monthty Holy Communion Seprfice 81 Dystlegh Grange Retirement Home which is always well received by the sIdentS. In November and December 2025, we were also pleased to provide for the residents and stsff a Remembrance SeNice and a Chnstingle Serv. To provide care and promote fellchvship for more senior members of the Parish a 'Long Table Lunch. is nomialty provided once a month through St. Mary's to. on average, 15120 elderty parishioners each month. Ladles from a'Knit and Natteff group knit prayer bfankets which are presented to the parents of children who are baptised in the Parish. A men's fellowship group, Yhe Gnjmpy Old Men.. nom)alty meels once a month and has an average attendance of 10 to16 men. A ladies felk)wship group 'The Dissey Bels. likewise meets once a month for lunch and also has an average attendance of 10 to 18 ladie$.

Aclivrties include periodulty holding Joint worship serwices. In 2025, w8 were able as Disley Churches Together to Join wrth the local Quakers for a Worfd Day of Prayer service and a Carol Service. The Disley Churches Tc3ether Team also Sup1 other with actlvities like the Basement dub, St. Mary's Tots and Open the Bk. Deanery Synod and Diocesan Synod Our two Pastoral Workers a Ex Officio members of the Chadkirk Deanery Synod and also members of the PCC. One of our Pastoral Wofkers k% also a member of the Chester Diocesan Synod. These memberships provide the PCC with importanl links between the Parish. the Deanery, the Diocese. and the whjer structures of the church. A report of the most recent meeting of the Deanery Synod Is normalty presented at each meeting of Ihe pcc. SL Mary's and SL John'• Churcho• In addition to the Churches béing open for the Services and private prayer referred to above. St. Mary's was open on Thursday aftemoons during School Temi times for Lighthouse Family Church. St. Mary's was open to the publ at the times referred to atrKwe, for prwate prayer and reflection and for visitors to experience and enjoy its history and architectural and cultural heritage. The m08t recent Qulnquennlal Reports on St Mary's (a Grade Il. Llsted BulldirvJl and Sl. John's pose substantial challenges for the PCC. St. Mary's requires substsntl restoration, repointing and weatherproofing of Ihe Tower and the entire exterior stonework with an estimated cost in the Order of £350,0001£400,000. Sl. John's requires malerial WOTks to create better access arKI refurbishwont of its krtchen and Hall where the costs have yet to be 88sessed. The PCC detemined that in order to pr(eed with the above works to St. Mary's. it needed Restoration Appeal for donations, a prtsJramm6 of Fundraising events and also lo seek Grant Funding. Two small worklng groups We esiablthed 10 take forward the necessary planning and strategy of the Restoralion Appeal, Fundraising and relevant applications fc Grant Funding. In antIcipatn that any Grant Funders would requlre some fijnding to be provided by the PCC to meet the cost of such works. the PCC has conffimied Tts MmItMent to provide from reser¥8s £126.OCKJ made up from its Restricted Fund Reserve (Restoring our Heritage Fund) and the balance from its Unstn"Cted Reserves as set out in its ReseNes Policy. The Restoration Appeal and Fundr8i$ing programme were launched al the Disley Proms event in April 2023. In 2025 an extensive prc3ramme of Restoration Appeal Fundraising events were held. all heavity focused on the local communty. All of the 2025 events were well attended and successful and the financial (Artcome is set QLrt in the Financial Review below. In 2025 il was detennined. with great sadness. that St. John's was financial unsustainable. After consultation wth Chester Diocese and the Church commisSnerS Ihe PCC were directed to proceed wilh the sale and closure of St. John's. retaining the consecrated land at
th8 rear of the property comprising the k)r the trial of ashes and remembrance garden. The sale prttess commenced in 2025 and is currenty ongoing. Both St. Mary's and St. John's are working hard to wesep4e the pOsitn and statu5 of St. John's as a working and worshiprAng Church, pending the sale of the propety. In 2025 Disley PCC deteThined thal, having regard to tts Other financial commitments, including a major Restoration Project for St. Marfs with a total estimated cost of ¢ir¢a £350,0001£400,000. the PCC would pay only 50% ofthe 2025 Assessed Parish Share. Thi$ amounted to {Ihe fwure pre¥iousty referred to) £38,808.00. In 2025, St. John's was not able to make any contnbution t¢wiards the Parish Share. The net SU[t for the year on untr1ded Funds was an increase of £15,053.29. The net resur( on all Funds was a total increase in Funds of £46.092.86.
After transfers to Reserves and ts adding balances brought for%Yard at the beginning of the year. the balances camed forward al 31st Dmber 2025 on Unrestricted Funds totalled £182.339.47" on Designaled Funds totslled £499.86. on Restricled Funds totalled £180.124.92 and on Endowment Funds totalled £4,706.04. The PCC'S Reserves Policy is annexed to the ACCnts for 2025 which &company thks Annual Report. {dl Income- SL John's St. John's had a disastrous financial year in 2025. Problems began in February 2025 wh8n a fault on the gas central heating system caused the he*'ng to remain on for an extended period of time resulting in a massple gas bill of £2,279.76. This wiped out 50% of St. John's cash reserves. Emergency action was taken to prevent insolvency including transferring £2,500 from St. John's Deposrt Account to Current Account.. St. Mary's providing a temporary Loan of £1,0.00{SubSequen1ty pa) and St. Mary's assuming a continuing reswnsibility for and paying certain of St. Jthn's outgoing$ including cost of Insurance, grounds and building maintenance and professi01 fees relats.ng to the proposed sale. To record and evidence these payments a ne4V Desynated Fund (St. John the Divine Designed Fund) was crealed in St. Mary's Accounts. In order to maintain the current levd of Insurance for St. John's, worship seNices have conlinued albeit at 8 reduced number per month. The gas central healing has been turned off to avoKt any further faulls wrth the system and to reduce overheads and lianCe is ncA¥ p18ced on eleclric heaters. No fundraising actNrties were out by St. John'8 in 2025 and there were no letting$ of the church hall. The above actions appear lo have stabilized St. John's finances. The faithful donor8 at St. John's continued therr nornial gNing in 2025. Both St. Mary's and Sl. John's are working hard lo preserve the current position and status of St. John's as a working and worshipping Church pending the Sale of the propety. Total receipts in 2025 on unrestrted Funds at SL John's We £5,438.55 of which £4,032.85 was Church Collections A further £400.00 received wa$ Wedding and Funeral Fees. Interest received was £5.70. No Income was reiVed in DeSnated Funds or Restricted Funds in the year. There were no Fundraising actNi¢$ in the year and no Lettlngs of the Church hall. Tolal Income in the year of £5.438.55 vms a decrease compared to the prevlou8 year of (£218.19). {el Expendltur• and Not Ruull - 8L John, Total expendilure from Unreslrthd Funds in 2025 to enable u8 to provide our Chnslian ministry and missM)n from St. John's amounted to £7,160.63. Totai Funds camed forwwd amounted to £2,900.01. st. John's has over recent years r>een a substantial dedine in its congregation numbers and reduction in its Income. Pending the intended sale and dosure referred to above. St. John's continues in operation and carries on rts christs.an Ministy and Mission in the Parish with the financial support from Sl. Mary's referred to above.

Ig) Roserves Pollcy In 2022, the PCC assessed and discussed in detail a revised Reserves Policy taking into account the financial pOsitn of l)oth St. Mary's and St. John's and the requirement to raise and expend extensive sums of money on Church buildings. A revised Reserves Policy was agreed by the PCC and fonnalty adopted on 13 March 2023. A copy of this ReseN88 Policy 1$ attached to the 2025 Accounts which accompany this Annual Rewrt. Church Fete and Scarecrow Compelilion, Organ Recitals, Gospel Choir Concert. a Ceilhjh Night and a Christmas Tree Festival. JOHN THE DMNE FURNESS VALE RESERVES POUCY and DESIGNAnoN OF FUNDS As approvod and adoptsd by Dhley PCC on 13th March 2023 Disley Parochial Church Council ('Disley PCC" and Ihe PCC.) reviewed and consmdered its financial position, the funds and income available to [( known and expected liabilities and requirements for expenditur8 which wer8 reasonably foreseaabEe and resolved to adopt and approve the Reserves Policy set out in this document In arriving at th8 Res8n48s Policy the PCC discussed and noted the following:_ CURRENT CIRCUMSTANES Total Income at St. Mary's is dedining and has not recovered to Pr8-Covid levels. Congregation numbers are some 40%150% less than Pre£ovid levels. The largest proportion of the o)ngregati¢m is 60+ and on fixed or pension incomes. Expenses forever increase and there is likely to be100% increase in Energy Costs in 2023. The Deficit on the General Fund at the end of 2022 was £34323.00. St. John's is almost financially unsustainable. It has an average congregation in single numbers. the majonty of whom are 60+ and on fixed or pension incomes. St. John's income is currently just about able to pay it's outgoings but it also faces a subslantial increase in Energy Costs from December 2022. It had Total Assets of £6,900 at 31 December 2022. For many years St. John's was able to contribute approximately 10% towards the Parish Share. It became un8ble to make any conlnbution from September 2021 which means the whole burd8n of th8 Pari8h Share has. since that date. fallen on St. Mary's. Parish Share (which is the annual assessment mad8 upon the Parish by Chester Di0san Board of Finance fchest8r DBf) as the Parish's contribution to Chester Diocesan Budget) is the PCC'S single largest item of Expenditure each year'.- St. Mary's Totsl Income in 2022 in rts General Fund was £84,141.41. The Parish Share in 2022 was £69,668.00 (which the PCC has paid in fijll) which presented 820A of the PCC'S Total Income: Assuming St. Mary's Total Income in 2023 is substantially the same as 2022 i.e. circa £84,141.00 then the 2023 Parish Share of £71.767.00 will Mpre8ent some 85% of St. Mary's Total Income. For many years the PCC has paid the assessed Parish Share in full but has only been able to do so by using its Reserrfes., The PCC has detemiined that the above situation is unsustainable particularly in the light of the matters mentioned later in this Resetves Policy., In considering the Questions which St. Mary's fa$, namely - 'How much of the 2023 Parish Share can it afford to payv And 'How much of its Reserves can it sensibly afford lo use to fund the Parish Share?, the PCC have detemiined that tt must reduce the amount it pays in Parish Share to. at least, the extent that such payment produces a C*ficrt in the PCC'S General Fund. This is a fundamentsl change in the PCC'S approach to the Parish Share. having consistently paid the Parish Share in full for certainly the last 14 years. This change is driven by the issues outlirFed in this Reserves Policy. It is estimated that approximately 40150.fi of St. Mary's Total Unrestricted Income each year is required just to pay the 'ordinary' day to day running costs and expenses of the Church e.g. - utilities. insurance, routine maintenance and normal OLrtgoings (excluding Parish Share and any material
non-recurring items of expenditure) leaving approximately 50160% of St. Mary's Total Unrestricted Income available to pay the annual assessment of the Parish Share. Applying these rcentageS to the 2023 Parish Share assessment of £71,757.00 the PCC on 9 January 2023. unanimously resolved that the amount of the 2023 Parish Share which the PCC could reasonabty afford to pay would be SA of the 2023 assessed Parish Sha being approximately £36,000. The PCC also d8t8mined to review the position again in June 2023. Any unpaid Parish Share remains as a Debt due to Chester DBF. St. Mary's, which is a Grad8 Il" Listed building, rs faced wrth having to fund an estimated amount of £330,000 to carry out extensive renovation and repair works to the structure of the building as identffied in its last Quinquennial Report. St. John's is likely to have a Capital Expenditure requirement of an estimated £30,000 for works to St. John's building when tts next Quinquennial Report is issued in 2023. It is envisaged that the renovation works to St. Mary's wrll have to be carried out in stages over a number of years and that the capital commitment to fund the works will have to be found from a comkn'nation of {a) us8 of Reserves (b) Fundraising and (c) Grants. At 31 December 2022.
