Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 01[st] July 2021 Period start date To 30[th] June 2022 Period end date

Charity name: Hexham Football Club

Charity registration number: 1185090

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 The aim of the charity is to advance sports
in Hexham and its surrounding areas, with
a specific focus on association football,
while benefiting the surrounding
community.
Additionally, we strive to offer facilities that
enable the organization of matches, social
events, and community engagement in
sporting activities.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
We had over 300 players registered for the
2021/2022 season, with teams ranging

from U7 to U16 age groups, as well as a

senior team.
As our players develop, we offer a smooth

transition through the age ranges and
senior team. We lease facilities from
Northumberland Council, mainly at

Dukeshouse Wood, to provide children with
access to competitive football on grassed

pitches. Additionally, we rent facilities from
Wentworth Leisure Centre and other local
venues for senior team matches and
training.
We have developed a relationship with
Hadrian Learning Trust and have access to
their 3G artificial surface on a commercial
basis for training and matches. Although

the school rebuild caused some delay, we
were able to use the facility from

September 2021 onwards. With the 3G
facility, we have been able to have training

sessions and matches with minimal
disruption due to weather during the
2021/2022 season.
This has provided more training time for all

members, which has seen an increased
playing time for everyone.
To help with the smooth running of our

club, our Trustees have invested in a
financial system to effectively collect

membership fees and maintain regular

oversight on our financial performance.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 Our Trustees always have the public /
community benefit in mind and plan all our
activities accordingly.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 The club has had a far more stable season,
following the challenges of the previous
season due to the restrictions in place due
to the Covid pandemic.
Our members, coaches and parents were
delighted to return to football training and
matches. This provided support to our
members health and wellbeing as well as
returning to a sense of normality for our
members and wider community.
Some of the main achievements from this
season:-
1. The club successfully embedded the use
over the newly developed 3G training and
match facilities at Queen Elizabeth High
School in partnership with Hadrian
Education Trust. The Club has been able to
establish the use of the facility, allowing

use for four evenings a week and at the weekend in a shared use agreement. 2. The club maintains FA community club status. 3. All coaches have completed age appropriate FA child and youth football coach certification. 4. All teams are covered by registered and trained first aiders and all volunteers are appropriately disclosure checked. 5. Over 300 players are registered to play for Hexham Football Club, which is a slight decrease from 2020/2021. 6. Training is offered for all age groups once a week. 7. Growth and development of girls football teams 8. Club Secretary, Gwyneth Scott received the outstanding contribution at the Sport Tynedale awards for her role at the club over the last 15 years. 9. The junior development section has been restructured to help increase the number of participants and bring in additional coaching support. 10. More community engagement events at local schools or village events to promote the role of the Club 11. Additional fundraising events to raise income to support the Club’s activities. 12. Number of team successes over the season including our Under 14 team going unbeaten to win Division 1 of the Russell Forster league, as well as the West Division Cup.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 The charity saw a deficit of £14k between
expenditure and income. The club reserves
were unusually high (£46k) from the
previous season (2020-2021) due to the
COVID pandemic whereby player fees
were collected but limited football provision
was provided. For this season (2021-2022),
full provision was provided however the
player fees income was reduced as we
offered a discount to address the previous
limited season.
The club reserves remained unusually high
(£31k) at the end of 2021-2022 season due
to an outstanding liability to pay
Northumberland County Council (NCC)
£12k for the lease of Dukeshouse Wood
football centre. The invoice was delayed
due to ongoing discussions with NCC
regarding the facility. The invoice has now
been received and paid in the 2022-203
season accounts.
Taking the NCC liability into account, the
club reserves were £19k at the end of the
season which was in-line with the financial
forecast.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 Financial aim of the Trustees is to always
keep the club bank account balance >£10k
to provide a safety net should any need
arise.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 Cash reserves in club bank account at end
of 2021/2022 season were £31k.
