Objectives and Activities

|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | Our object is “to provide and maintain an open space to be known as ‘Barnwood’ for the benefit of the inhabitants of East Finchley and Barnet and to be used as an area for recreation and other leisure time occupations, as a meeting area or place for community events and for any other lawful purpose and for the general benefit of the community, in the interests of social welfare, and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.” |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we did a thorough risk assessment and concluded that it is not safe for our site to be open to the public. For this reason, there were no activities open to the public at Barnwood. The biggest activity we organised was in collaboration with the 1st Finchley Scout Group in March 2021. We liaised closely with the Scout leaders and during Science Week, we collectively organised a set of science activities for the Beaver, Cub and Scout groups to do from their home. It was a great event with a lot of parents participating as well. |
| Statement confirming whether the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit |
Para 1.18 | The Charity Trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers or duties. |

Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | The pandemic forced us to close the Barnwood doors. Following a thorough risk assessment, the trustees concluded that it was not safe for our site to be open to the public. We did however, continue with site upkeep and maintenance in a safely distanced manner. The site also continued to be used by other groups under their own Covid- safety conditions and risk assessment. The Harington Scheme was in Barnwood for approximately 100 hours, average 4 users per session supervised by 2 adults. A total of 119 users from Newstead Children Centre used Barnwood accompanied by 30 staff over 24 sessions throughout the year. Given the pandemic and wider closures, we are happy that our long-term partnerships with Harington and 0-19 Early Help Hub continued to thrive. |
Our event in collaboration with the 1[st] Finchley Scout group was a great success with 64 online participants.

Financial Review
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | In our second financial year ending April 2021, Barnwood N2 successfully obtained a modest £500 through British Science Week. Our expenses were higher at £1,613 and that was mainly for the Science Week activities, equipment and operational costs. At the year-end, we registered the balance of £11,348 in the Barnwood N2 account. It is our policy that unrestricted funds not designated for a specific use should be maintained at a level which will ensure that in the event of a drop in funding the Charity will be able to continue its activities. |
