Trustees Annual Report

From January 2024 To December 2024

Charity Name - Leigh Network

Registration No. 1184735

Objectives and Activities

The purpose of the charity is to support families whose lives are affected by mitochondrial disease. To raise awareness of mitochondrial disease. And to raise funds for research into mitochondrial disease, as well as giving families days out where they can come together with others, share experiences and understanding of the same or similar issues affecting each other.

The objectives are to enhance the lives of people who have a degenerative disorder for which there is no cure or treatment. Because it is a rare condition and people often feel isolated, allowing people to meet others going through the same thing.

We offer a family fun day out in places all over the country. Sometimes with a medical expert present to inform the family of any new developments in the field of mitochondrial disease. New medications or trials.

As the condition can be quite isolating we feel it is important to ensure the mitochondrial families we support feel included and part of our ‘mito family’.

We have continued monthly zoom calls with the families which have been very useful and have had encouraging feedback. We have also started a bereaved parents zoom call which has had a positive outcome and something we are finding there is a need for.

Our main event this year was an adult weekend in Blackpool for our adult families. This took place in a hotel for disabled people.

Leigh Network were invited to take part in an art exhibition were a selection of paintings were sold and a donation made to Leigh Network.

The charity was slightly affected by personal bereavement which impacted on some events, but we are back on track to continue our important work for our families.

Leigh Network continues to deliver blankets to sick children spending time in hospital. Also butterfly boxes to families who are struggling with coming to terms with diagnosis.

We continue to raise funds, by doing sponsored events, coffee mornings, folk night (mito on the mic)
