Section C Objectives and activities lal To promote for the benefit of the public in the area of Barrow-in- Fumess, South and West Cumbria the preservation and proteclTron of the environment by recyding unwanted domestic appliances and other household commodrtes. Ib} The prevention or relief of poverty in Barrow-in-Fumess, South and West Cumbria by: (i) The sale of recyded unwanted domestic applIanS and other househdd commodtlies to people on low incomes. and., (ill The provision of work placement, training and volunteering opFortunities to economically disadvantaged people or people in povety to assist them in retumin to Work or ainin em lo ment. Summary ofthe objects ofthe charity set out in its governing document We receNe donations of unwanted white goods and refurbish them and offer them for sale wrth a six month vrrantY. These items would otherwise go straight to scrap vthhout any potential for reuse. Items which cannot be refurbished are stripped for usable spare parts and recycled. We are a licensed waste carrier and have a T11 Exemption registered wtth the Environment Agency. We record all collethons, Servi documents, repairs and sales including the number of households a5SiSted. These are detailed in Section D. We provide a low cost repair service wrth no call out fees. This provides a valuable service to the poorest sections of our community that would nomially have to pay these fees on top of any work actually done. The sales of these g¢xJs a available to all members of the public regardless of income bur chiefly to the poorest sections of the ¢ommunty. Summary ofthe maln activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects linclude within this section the ststutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charlty Commission on public bonefftl We give discounts on the sale pnce of at least 10% to anyone on any kind of stale benefrts or pensioners. We provide gocJs for a number of charrtable organisations and local agencies induding.. Children and Adutts SeNIS. Love Barrow Families. Womens Matters, Humankind. Drug and Alcohol Conrn, Vidim Support and people moving on from homelessness. Free delivery is also given to people in the most deprived wards in the Barrow-in-Fumess. South and West Cumbria area. n order to provKle these services we have trained staff and use volunteers and placements for work experience and training. Some placements were sour1 through the Buikding Better Opportunities Scheme funded from Europe to reath the long temi unemployed and help them to beme work rewjy. All the Trustees have read and understand the requirements of the guidan from the Charity Commission and have regard to them. In regard to the beneffts of the Charity we maintain full documentation of all the unwanted domestic appliances, from collection to refurbishment to eventual sale or recyding. In addition the documentation infomis us of the gec•3raphical locations of all donations and sales, whether the beneficiaries are in receipt of any benefrts {e.g. Universal Credit, State Pension, Disability benefrts etc.). In addition infomiation is recorded as to whether a dient has been referred to us by a charitablè Agency or local govemment- e.g. Children. and Adurt ServiGes, Vith'm Support etc. Environmental data is also Clected in the fom of tonna e diverted from TAR March 2012
landfill and the C02 savings from our operations. The number of volunteers and placements is also recorded each month. All this infomiation is presented to the Trustees at monthly Board meetings to ensure we are reaching the beneficiaries need to reach, particularly those living in poverty and on low income. Doing so allows us to react quickly rf shortfalls are KIentifd. At an Annual General meeting all the data for the year is considered and any gaps in our seNices are ident and plans developed to address these in the coming year. Section D Achievements and performance 2020 - 2021 has been a time of consolidating our relationships with other i local groups and reinforcing ConnlI0nS wtth Barrow Borough Council and Cumbria County Council. Summary ofthe main achievements of the charity during the year Barrow has some of the most deprtved Wards in the country {particularly Central Ward which is wtthin the poorest 40 Wards in the country according to the Index of Deprivation). We are based in this ward. We have achbeved the following during the period of this report: Total Items collected.. Totsl Items Reused.. Average rate of reuse.. 63% Total Households assisted: 747 Using trTre Reuse Networks rectjgnized Reuse Impact Calculator this equates to: Househokls savings of: £137.100 C02 savings of.. 26616 kg Discounts given.. 203 households at an average of £14 - £2840 Free delivery given to 176 households @ £10 = £1760 Totsl = £4602 Repaits undertaken: 169 at an average of £24 per repair. We only charge I for the work done and for parts. there is no call out charge. Parts are often sourced from stcKk taken from machines Ihat are to be recycled. These are refurt)ished prior to use. Around 40% of our sales Game from referrals from Children and Adult serViS, Love Barrow Families. Womens Matters, Humankind, Drug and Alcohol Concem. Victs'm SupkK)rt. We had 4 volunteers during the period in question. They have been vital in enabling us to deliver our services. While with us they have reiVed and Mpleted in house training. In addition we received I placement Irom the Building Opportunities Scheme. We also recetved additional information, where payment through the Building Better Opportunrties Scheme for the relevant about.. placement we had. the charity's prinapal sources of funds (induding any fundraising): how expendiiure has supported the key objectives of the chartty- investment policy and objectives including any elhical investment policy adopted. We received Restricted Funding of £5000 from Barrow Counals COVID- 19 Hardship Fund. This was to award up to £100 per daimant towards the supply of whrte goods for those most in need. Section F Other optional information COVID 19 had a major effect on our finances during 2020 and 2021. Afterthe initial full lock down we retumed on a part tim• basis for the rest of 2020 and some of 2021 (induding the ¢xld full shut down as per government instructions). Throughout the epidemic we tried to maintain a skeleton selv1 to support essential workers. pensioners and those suffering serious economic hardship. People needed repairs and replacement gocKJs for laundry, cooking and refngeration purposes. The overall effect was to virtually halve our income for the financial year, which led to signrficant losses. We took out a Boun Back Loan from the Govemment to make sure we could keep going. I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 July 2021, which are set out on page 2.

As the charity’s Trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts; you consider that the audit requirement of section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) does not apply. It is my responsibility to state, on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 145(5)(b) of the Act, whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiners Report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanation form you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
