Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a

Para 1.20 This was the fifth full year of the Wolverley
Memorial Charitable Trust and the third
“normal” year after the lifting of Pandemic
restrictions
The number of regular hirers and “one-off”
private hires for parties and other events
continued to increase.
One of the most significant achievements
in the year was the continued development
of the Community Café, extending the
opening hours and the range of services
provided.
The Cafe has become a popular meeting
place achieving the Charity’s aim of
establishing the Café as a community hub.
The Charity was again successful in
obtaining a “Warm Space” grant allowing
the Community Café to provide affordable
food and refreshments during the Winter
Period to help people with the cost of living
crisis and prevent isolation.
A programme of Eat, Drink and Learn
events has been introduced to encourage
local people to attend.
A Remembrance Service was held on 10
November at the Memorial Hall, followed
by a parade to the village church for the
first time since Covid.
This like the “Carols at the Hall” event will
now be an annual event

Achievements against
objectives set
Para 1.41 The Charity’s main aim continues to be to
broaden and extend the use of the Hall and
other facilities by more organisations and
individuals in the furtherance of the
Charity’s objects.
The Charity’s main objectives for the year
were to:
1. to continue the internal refurbishment of
the Memorial Hall, making it an attractive
environment for the benefit of local
residents.
2. to develop the Community Café into a
warm, welcoming space offering affordable
food and refreshments
3. to explore further opportunities for Grant
funding
4. to maintain all the Charity’s facilities to
ensure they are safe and available for local
residents throughout the year and to
maximise their use.
5. to develop the strategy and operational
framework of the CIO, including the review
of policies and recruitment of new staff and
volunteers.
6. to improve the accessibility to the
services available at the Hall and
Community Café for the disabled.
All these objectives were achieved.
Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives
set
Para 1.41 Fundraising income met targets for the
regular car boot sales, children’s funfair,
and craft fayres.

these events enabled increased fundraising
through the provision of food and
refreshments.
Investment performance
against objectives
Para 1.41 Not applicable

policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 The charity’s reserve policy is to hold a
level of reserves in its general fund to have
sufficient working capital to ensure
continuance of its operating activities.

Reserves of £6,662 and Restricted

The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including

fundraising events, including car boot
sales, fayres, festivals and craft shows.
Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted
Para 1.46 Not applicable
A description of the principal
risks facing the charity
Para 1.46 The principal risk facing the charity is the
need to replace the current Hall in the
medium-term.
The significant refurbishment of the exterior
and interior of the Hall has extended the life
of the current building but it will need
replacement before it reaches the end of its
useful economic life.
The other main risk to the Charity is the
need to ensure income generating activities
continue to meet the running costs of the
Hall, Children’s Play Area, Community Café
and grounds.
