The number of regular hirers and “one-off” private hires for parties and other events returned to pre-pandemic levels and increased further during the year. The most significant achievement in the year was the completion of the work to redecorate and substantially modernise the interior of the Hall. The Charity was able to use the opportunity offered by the refurbishment to create a Community Café which opened in December 2022. |

Para 1.41 Para 1.41 |
Charity’s aim continues to be to broaden and extend the use of the Hall and other facilities by more organisations and individuals in the furtherance of the Charity’s objects. The Charity’s 4 main objectives for the year were to: 1. to carry out significant internal refurbishment to the Memorial Hall, addressing the major operational risk identified by the Charity. 2. to explore further opportunities for Grant funding 3. to increase the use of the main hall and newly created meeting rooms to more local groups and Wolverley residents 4. To develop the strategy and operational framework of the CIO following the end of the pandemic, including the review of policies and recruitment of new staff and volunteers. All these objectives were achieved. Fundraising income met targets for the regular care boot sales, children’s funfair, and craft fayres. Unfortunately, the planned Beer Festival was cancelled due to the lack of sufficient volunteers. |

|---|---|---|
| SORP reference | ||
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | The Charity’s overall financial position at the end of the year remains a healthy one. The Trustees planned the use of some reserves in 2022 to supplement grant funding received to complete the refurbishment of the Memorial Hall. Those reserves have been replenished in 2023. |
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 | The charity’s reserve policy is to hold general reserves in its general fund at least equal to a year’s estimated projected expenditure, as a contingency. |
| Amount of reserves held | Para 1.22 | Reserves held at the year-end totalled £87,825; comprised of Unrestricted Reserves of £16,192 and Restricted Reserves of £71,633. The Unrestricted Reserves remain sufficient to cover a normal year’s projected expenditure. |

| The charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising) |
Para 1.47 | Sources of Income are from rental of the Hall, sub-letting of some of the grounds and fundraising events, including car boot sales, fayres, festivals and craft shows. £40,360 of grant funding was received in 2022 towards the cost of the internal refurbishment of the Memorial Hall |
| Investment policy and objectives including any social investment policy adopted |
Para 1.46 | Not applicable |
| A description of the principal risks facing the charity |
Para 1.46 | The principal risk facing the charity is the need to replace the current Hall in the medium-term. The significant refurbishment of the exterior and interior of the Hall has extended the life of the current building but it will need replacement before it reaches the end of its useful economic life. The other main risk to the Charity is the need to ensure income generating activities continue to meet the running costs of the Hall, Children’s Play Area, and grounds. |
