Achievements and Performance
SORP reference
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | Trustees agreed to and received with thanks substantially all funds held by the former unincorporated association, Achieve Africa. - Donations made The annual children’s Christmas party was carried out as usual. In view of the security situation of the country, the venue of the event was changed and the children had their party without much publicity. It went very well and they children were happy that it wasn’t cancelled. - Change of Name One of our trustees, formerly known as Fr Isidore Nnamdi Obi, has in the last one year changed his name by Deed Poll. He is now officially known as Nnam Di Obi, while still retaining his priestly title of Reverend Fr. Therefore, he shall henceforth be addressed in his new names in all the charity actions and documentation. - Appointed new Trustees and Treasurer Considering the loss of two trustees who stepped down the previous year, Peter Burrows and Ellen Olutunmogun, the trustees have appointed three more trustees to add to what we already had. Namely: Christine Obiero, Yuri Fernandes, Obinna Esiowu and Christian Nwachukwu. In addition to the two trustees who have been there already, Fr Nnam Di Obi and Crispiniana Baquero, we have six trustees at the moment, which has added strength and vigour to the work of the charity. |
| - | Magnus Anyanwu was appointed as |
|---|---|
| a representative in Nigeria | |
| He has been appointed as a | |
| representative for Achieve Africa in | |
| Nigeria. He is a student who helps to | |
| mobilise young people and carries | |
| out little projects of Achieve Africa | |
| which benefits children and young | |
| people. He is constantly updating us | |
| with his periodic reports. | |
| - | Donation to Lawrence Ohaeri |
| Achieve Africa, as part of our | |
| support to young disabled and/or | |
| disadvantaged Africans have come | |
| across a classical example of | |
| someone who meets our supporting | |
| criteria. He is Mr Lawrence Chigbo | |
| Ogueri. He lost his sight while he | |
| was in secondary school due to poor | |
| health and medical access. This | |
| didn’t stop him. He attended special | |
| school for the blind to complete his | |
| secondary education; obtained his | |
| First degree and Masters | |
| programmes in one of the | |
| universities in Nigeria. It was at this | |
| point we encountered him. He | |
| approached Achieve Africa and | |
| requested to be sponsored for his | |
| PhD programme in the University of | |
| Nigeria Nsuka. According to him, | |
| this would give him the rare chance, | |
| as a visually impaired young man, to | |
| get a job, especially, a lecturing job | |
| in the university. This will also place | |
| him in a position to support other | |
| physically challenged young people | |
| in his situation, especially in the | |
| areas of advocacy. |
Mr Lawrence Ogueri was granted a full scholarship by Achieve Africa for at least four years, which started last years, 2022.
