COVID-19

As with all charities, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound negative effect on the fund-raising capacity of FOSDA. However, one of its principal projects, the Beehive, has kept running to support students who are experiencing food poverty. This was due primarily to successful grant applications for which we are greatly appreciative.

It is hoped that fund-raising activities can resume during the year 2021-2022, when a greater range of projects may then be supported. Once these activities resume, we aim to draw in a greater number of volunteers and seek broader support from our school community.

Additional commentary on expenditure

Beehive Project

This project started by Mr and Mrs Murray continues to provide breakfast for students who have been identified as coming from homes where there is insufficient food for them to get breakfast before leaving for school. Expenditure has been used to provide food and drink supplies for these students. It is anticipated that the project will eventually be at least part-funded by Pupil Premium funds.

Ten Tors Fund-raising Trek

A 10 Tors-style trek was held in May 2021 organised by one of the PE teachers and a former parent. This raised £3,979.60 which has been collected and allocated for 10 Tors equipment purchase for the school’s teams for the 2022 event.

Picnic benches for the playground

Various sources of grant money were successfully applied for in order to buy additional picnic benches for the playground. This was especially important as during the return to school postlockdowns, students had to remain outside during their break and lunchtimes. Due to the success of the grant applications, 10 weatherproof and maintenance free benches were bought.

Teachers’ Resources Requests

The only teachers’ request funded this year was for teaching resources for the Geography department (extra-large world maps and weather station equipment).
