Para 1.20 | In 2023, we copordinated Refugee Week in Brighton & Hove once again. We coordinated events organised by other organisations to allow a single refugee week publicity across the city and we organised a film screening, jointly with the University. We also ran two sessions for local schools (free of charge). Alongside Refugee Week activity we picked up on our regular schools of sanctuary work, supporting activities in primary and secondary schools across the city. We also further contacts with the central library which became a Library of Sanctuary and hosted the main refugee week event. This year, thanks to an additional grant from Brighton and Hove City Council we were able to employ a coordinator, Fatehullah Naserzai, for 2 days a week. He has lived experience of seeking sanctuary in the UK and is working extremely well, coordinating all of our activities and particularly engaging with refugee and community organisations in the city. |
