Reverend Tara Fr2nkl2nd has responsibllity for Saint Michael'5 Aveley and Saint Stephen's Purfeet and Father Matt Drummond has responsibiliry for Al Saints Belhus Park and Saint Nicholas South Ockendon. In order to make this possible we needed to find a pattern which allowed us to hold Sunday setyices with only one Priest available and without the need to cancel any service5 or change their nature. We therefore have agreed a pattern of fortnightly Eucharists and a nonuch2risric service on the other Sundays. This parn means that there will always be a Eucharist in each Districc on a Sursday and there will always be a Eucharist at 9.45am 3nd I1.15am to enable those who wish to, to rravel to another Church to receive Communion if their usual Church is having a non-eucharistic service that Sunday. This decision has not been taken Ilghtly and l am only too well aware that many of you are disappointed that a weekly eucharist will not be availible in your usual Church but l am afraid thar this is the m05t sensible solution which avoids the need to cancel eucharists on a regular basi5. We have also agreed thar there will always be a Eucharisi for festival Sundays and tha¢ Patronal Festivals Mll alwdys have J Eucharist whilst we still have Ewo stipendiary priests In the Parish, in addition on a fifth Sunday there will be a eucharist in one of the Churches in the Te2m and no service in the other rhree. Over the next few months the non- eucharistic sernices will evolve withln each Church commuiiiry to reflecc the cong81[1011 and the churchmanship of the area. If you would like to be involved in the planning for non-eucharisilc services please do Speak with your Churthwardens and Clergy. I know that all of this wlll take some gettlng used to and I do thank you for your patlence and wisdom as we haye been maklng these decisions. I do appreciate your willingness 10 have a new pattern of Thlces and the prayerful way In which you have approached the issue5. We are now back to a reasonably normal way of working alchough we are sti15 keeping an eye on Infettion rates and are sull keeplng some of the safery measures In place. It ha5 been a real learning curve for all of us and I wlll be forevor grateful for the Pll tience and good humour that all of you have shown and for the assistance of M2K the Churchwardens. Alex. Henry and Glynis in all the changes and uncertaintles. l am sure that we will all emerge stronger and having learnt a lot about ourselves 2nd our faith. In 2022 we look forward to continuing to emerge from the Pandemlc and to rhe Platinum Jubilee for the Queen. As we look forward we trust God that he will continue to be faithful and rhat we wlll continue to grow. The new pattrrn will look Ilke thls". Sintt Candlemas I have been formalty serving as Team VIc3r with responsikn'liry for the Northern half of our Te3rn {Belhus Park and South Ockendon). though I have been coverSng there since before then. This has meant a change in trmpo for m& and a Chan to exercise a more Incarnauonal approach to ministry, that is being emdded in the communities I serve through living in midst and sharing their common life. Page | 14
The move has s0 meant learning to lead in a new way, and to learn and understand the needs of the communiues and churches I serve. This has initialty meant listening, praying and thinking, but 15 now moving into vision sharing and implementation. One of my initial visions is for the Church to be truly incamacional, that is iii the midst of the people. and serwng the people. and for us truly 'io be one, as Jesus prays co the Father, with xll the complexities that entiils. But the Priest doe5 not mlnister on hls own. but rather shares in the ministry of the whole church communiry. With this in mind l am tru5y grdteful to those who've kept All Saints and St Nicholas'5 running these pst few year5. My prayer is that we may work more closely together to enable our churches to fulfill their call to worship 2nd to serve. Fr Mat Other Reports ALL SAINTSty CHOIR REPORT 2022 After completing a rlsk assessment for covid 19, we re-startsd choir practice in sepmber of 2021 with really rusry voice5 and detrrmination to move forward as resErlctlons were eased and Infection ratrs fell. Not all member5 have returned at prosent but most have. We started with the Intention of takin8 part in the Chelmsford cholr festlval and accended a prattice at Saint Edward The Confessor In Romford. Our thanks go to Robert Petherum who had been supporting our learning of parts etc for thi5. Although che music was once again not what we could use in our own setting. it was lovely co sing cogether wlth others. There were no masks etc there, which was a Ilttle SL>rprising! Unfortunately, due to illness (nor covld!) other commitments and gonernl chaos, we were unable to make the day. So our full attention turned to Christmas. It was still vnclear wh3t form our Christmas servlees would take, bue it wa5 declded that we would go ahead with learning items and if all else failed on the in- person Ilne we could live stream from rhe church, soclally dIstand and on our own. Carols by Cxndlelighr enabled us to have a specific alm. Robert again volunteered to play the organ and a few extra members were added co our choii", from Salnt Mary Magdalen4 North Ockendon and one member who worship5 ai a London church. The service did go ahead but by then Omicron, a variauon of covid 19 was Trmpaglng. The Wvdther was awful and with social dlscancing maintalned and doors kept open for ventilation etc it was poorty attended and freezing cold!11!! However, we hope that we lifted peoples splrits at another rime of great uncerrainty. We also managed to go out into the communiry ro carol sing. We enjoyed an hour of carol singin8 at Leatherland Lodge, which was a great privilege. Henry played vlolln for us and that helped us to stay in tune. We sang outside in the quadrangle and the resideijts were able to see and hear us and to join in. Father Matt also joined us for this. Our thanks ro Leatherland Lodge for the invite and for the tea and mince pies at the end ! We had antlcipated being able to have our Midnighr Mass with a full number of carols etc. As it happened, Father Matt ended up self-i501aciiig as poor Tabltha had sted positive. So Tard ran round four churches delivering a Christmas Mas5 to us all. We kept to our usuas Patrn of one carol at the start and one to fSnish. As we returned in the New Year, we have un to reInOduce our servSce music. We have gone back to the David Thome Setting, which is simpler for everyonÉ to pick up the melody. We are a150 singing th hymns. It is hoped thai by Lent IEaster we will be in a position to sing the whole seNice again. We are looking forward to being able fully to 'Make ajoyful Noise unto the Lord our God,, once again! Page | IS
