Summary of the main activities in relation to those I purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or 8eThices identified in the , accounts. Pars 1.17 arvj 1.19 Cataloguing, preseNing, renovating, erecting. digitising and displaying artefacts, documents, photographs. maps and plans linked to the mining industry and the ommunity. I Constru¢ting memorials to colliers who lost their lives at Chatterley IMiitField, in the north Staffordshire coalfield and at war. Maintaining a mining heritage centre with ! displays and exhibitions, for research, projects and meetings, and as a drop-in centre for social activty, memories and oral history. ' Providing tours and information about Chattertey Whrfield on Heritage Open Days, other open days and for parties from schools, colleges and community associations. Liaising with Stok8-on-Trent City Council (the owners of the site) and other organisations, including Historic England, to preserve the several listed buildings and scheduled ancient monuments on site.
Applying for grant fvnding to maintain. i enhance and develop the Chatterley Whitfield Friends heritage centre and other buildings and site assets. Cultivating a social media presence to infomi the wider public about Chatterley hitfield. Supporting the security of the complex and. wilh the aid of a local college, keeping in ' check the overgrowih of vegetation. Producing an Onoing photographic record of Chattertey Whitfield to monitor the state of the buildin9S. Liaising with Historic England, the local M.P., and the site owners progress on the ouncil adopted Vision document. setting out opportunities for the re-use and re-purposing of Chattedey Whilfield. Providing volunteering opportunities for ' community members. Obtaining a grant to maintain visitor access to the 2 star listed Pil Head Baths building and the canteen. ! Obtsining a grant to develop Building 30, a building full of mining artefacts which can be a¢¢essed by the public. Achievements and Performance ,' SORP r•fer¢nce ', Summary of the main achievements of the charty, identifying the differenc8 the charity's wod( has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a ,. We have seen a reduction in the number of Chattedey Whiffield Friends at over 350 , supporting members. The 2022 HODS and open days were all fully booked and there was a waiting list, showing the continuing interesl that remains in the j former colliery both locally and further afield.
The well established working parties on Thursday and Saturday mornings have .' attracted more active members and the Heritag8 C8ntre and R8membrance Garden has become established as well frequented social meeting places. Visits without appointment (the main colliery site itself is usually cordoned off due to potential °piffalls'} are still being conducted. We were also available by appointment at suitably convenient times to guide tours around the colliery site itself for individuals and community groups. Ne continued to develop the Remembrance Garden {with addilional sealing for reflection , and flower and herb beds) induding the miners epitaph and memorials commemorating the 1881 disaster at Chattedey Whitfield and a World War memorial. A new memorial was unveiled in i 2022 to the Lid1. ,, We hosted filming by a local film production ', company as well as undertaking interviews for local television. radio and the press. We continue to work with Reaseheath College arboriculture students to help with the removal of excess vegetation from the site. We have Cowoperated with the local Keele University on I0 projects - 'De¢ommissioning the 2¢y Century. and °Planning Creativity.. The former concemed with how Tnajor industrial sites are decommissioned and the latter regarding how communtties can participate in th8 planning process. In 2022 we made the site available for Urban Experience, a local charity group. who brought some local artists, later displaying '. their work. , We finished an OLrtside demonslrator tub rail ' netsvork adIant to the memorial compound ', showing visitors how work was done and , coal moved in the mine. This has now been developed and a new area has been ! developed to display and underground Dint ! Header (Modem mechanised machinery). We continue to look for grants for the fonner Canteen and other parts of the pil head baths i for Friends and community use. We have obtained funding during the year to ', enhan the Remembrance Garden and i obtained banners and displays boards
I We continue to maintain and enhance our presence on Facebook, Instagram. Twitter and YouTube which. together wilh our i website, infornis and acquaints the public l and community aboLrt what is happening and opportunities at Chattedey INhrtfield ,' We have co-operated with other universities, . colleges and schools, who are undertaking a variety of projects, including architecture. marketing, media, history and others. to show them the site and infomi them of its past, present and future potential. Unfortunately, we have eXperiend and continually deal with (as best we can) vandalism and trespass on site which is damaging irreplaceable heritage., this involves patrolling the srte, mending and replacing fencing and liaising with the council and the police. In June we were burgled and ,' a number of artefacts stolen. We have participated in the Onoing production of a Vision document for ', Chattertey Whitfield, commissioned by Historic England, that will consider future uses for the fomer colliery. This has now ' b8en adopted by the City Council. i INe are still digitising the several thousand photographs and documents and are in the process of digitising several thousand maps and plans, which are held at Chatterley Whitfield. with the intention of cataloguing them on our websile (with excerpts on Fabook and Instagraml and making the collections available, subject to copyright, to researchers, both amateur and professional. We have been visited by the commissioners from Historic England. several Tv Companigs and DIY SOS Big Build- Nick Knowles. We held an outdoor remembrance Servi as part of ourAGM in November, to remember with grats'tude and indebtedness all those colleagues who lost their lives serving King and Que8n in amied conflict. We are continually grateful for those rtems which are donated to us by members ofthe mining communty public and others, local organisations and private companies as well as the considerable help given by local, regional and national auihorities.

The main sources of unrestricted income are membership fees and donations. These can fluctuate from year to year, as can monthly outgoings. Memorial Project Fund Chatterley Whitfield Friends are constructing memorials in commemoration of North Staffordshire miners who have lost their lives in the collieries or in war. Staffordshire Police Shutter Grant awarded 2020. This grant is to further improve the security of the Chatterley Whitfield Friends Heritage Centre. Postcode Lottery Grant awarded 2021 This grant is to improve the roof of the Chatterley Whitfield Friends Heritage Centre. Lidice Project Chatterley Whitfield Friends are constructing a memorial to the lives lost in the Lidice atrocity. Arnold Clark Grant This grant is for the displays and banners at Chatterley Whitfield Lottery Community Fund This grant is for the pavers (£1000), Sports Gates (£750) and Lidice Trellis (£200) 3. No depreciation is assumed for artefacts. 4. The CIO has no outstanding guarantees to third parties nor any debts secured on the assets of the CIO. 5. No remuneration was paid to any trustee or members. No expenses were paid to trustees or members.
