based charity which seeks to promote
excellence in education and positive
integration into British society. The
Foundation was established to continue
the legacy of the late Naz Bokhari OBE.
This Foundation has been set up by his
family who wish to honour his life and
good work. It hopes that like him, by
promoting excellence in education and
positively integrating in British society,
we can all make an impact.

The Foundation has three programmes
for the public benefit to meet its mission
of raising aspirations and promoting

Interfaith Iftar
The Foundation organises high profile
community integration events, and the
Interfaith Iftar is the highlight of the
Foundation’s calendar. It offers young
people (14-30) the opportunity to meet
people from different faiths and none
and directly engage with leaders in our
society.
Since 2016, we are honoured to have
made history by organising the first ever
Iftars at iconic and historical places of
worship.

Diversity Programme

The Diversity Programme, supported by
Mosaic, a mentoring initiative founded
by HRH The Prince of Wales and the
Times Education Supplement, was
launched in 2014 by the Deputy Prime
Minister, Rt Honourable
Nick Clegg. The Programme
encourages young people from minority
and disadvantaged communities to visit
cultural institutions and provides them
with unique opportunities such as visits
to St James Palace and Clarence
House to learn about the rich heritage
of diverse role models in Britain, like
Princess Saphire Singh, who played a
vital role in the Suffragette movement.
The Foundation looks at Free School
Meal Data when selecting schools for
the programme.
Naz Bokhari Award
The Naz Bokhari Award is an annual
award for students who achieve
university acceptance despite adversity,
who have to strive harder than others
due to personal or social issues. This
award recognises resilience and
perseverance, qualities that Naz had,
and promoted. Nominated by their
peers and teachers at Ernest Bevin
College, the winner is chosen by the
Principal each year.

Para 1.38 The Foundation has been supported by
its volunteers from its inception in 2012.
The Foundation has an executive
board, compromising of six volunteers,
who help steer the direction of the
Foundation. They support the Director
in planning events, running events and
with future planning and grant
applications. The Foundation also relies
on its army of volunteers to support the
high-profile interfaith events, the charity
organises in Ramadan.

Para 1.20 Interfaith Iftar
In May 2019, we organised the first
ever interfaith gathering and Iftar at St
Pauls Cathedral and Guildhall, London.
The event was organised in partnership
with St Paul’s Cathedral and the City of
London and aimed to bring together
young people from all faiths and none
to celebrate the diversity of London.
Over 100 young people, from all faiths
and none, attended the Interfaith
gathering at St Pauls and the Iftar
dinner at Guildhall.
Additionally, to the Mayor of London
and the Bishop of London, the Deputy
Chief Mission at the United States
Embassy, the Remembrancer, the
Permanent Secretary (MHCLG),
Melanie Dawes, Lord Rumi Veerjee and
Sir Trevor Pears were also in
attendance. Also in attendance were
representatives of the Princes Trust,
Board of Deputies of British Jews,
Mitzvah Day, Islamic Relief, British
Asian Trust, Faith Forum, the Faith and
Belief Forum and CAFOD.
The Interfaith Gathering and Iftar
received very good media coverage
from mainstream media, such as, BBC
London and Evening Standard. The
event was also featured in faith and

community media, including; Premier Christian radio and Geo News. The Evaluation from the evening found that 78% of the attendees felt more knowledgeable about other faith and 79% of attendees felt that they would be able to transmit the knowledge they had gained at the Iftar to others. Diversity Programme In 2019/2020 we had developed a partnership with the venues below to host a Diversity Day: The Telegraph The Tower of London University of Cambridge Across the Diversity Days, over 120 young people took part in various activities including, tour of a newsroom critical thinking session walking tour of University of Cambridge spoken word with Fusion Lit careers talk application assistance We were honoured to have the work we do with young people from underrepresented communities via our Diversity Programme be recognised by the Faith & Belief Forum at their annual Community Awards Reception at the Royal Society of Medicine on Tuesday 26th November 2019. Over 100 young people across London joined the Diversity Programme in 2019/2020. The evaluation report from the programme found that 96% of young people who took part in the programme strongly felt the programme improved their understanding and knowledge of diversity in Britain. Unfortunately, due to the Covid19 pandemic, the programme ended in March and planned Diversity Days to HSBC and Lord Cricket Ground have been postponed. On average the young people entitled to free school meals on the Diversity programme is 20%.

Naz Bokhari Award This award recognises resilience and perseverance, qualities that Naz had, and promoted. Nominated by their peers and teachers at Ernest Bevin College, the winner is chosen by the Principal each year. On Thursday 19th September 2019, Nadirah Alam, received the Naz Bokhari Award in front of her friends and family at a special assembly arranged by Ernest Bevin College. Nadirah became our first female recipient of the award and is now studying medicine at Queen Mary University, London.

Foundation has made great strides
towards its objectives. The Foundation
has focussed on raising aspiration
amongst young people through its
Diversity Programme and the Naz
Bokhari Programme and has
encouraged positive integration via its
