Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 1 November 2021 to 31 October 2022

Charity name: Gwenddwr Carnival, Show and Sports

Charity registration number: 1182896

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 The purpose of the charity is the
advancement of agriculture for the public
benefit by
(i) the encouragement of skill and industry in
agriculture and in allied trades, craft
and professions connected with the rural
economy, and
(ii) the demonstration, exhibition and
showing of livestock, crafts, products,
methods and processes connected with
agriculture and agricultural education.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
The main activity of the charity is to hold an
annual agricultural show.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 In preparing and carrying out the above
activity, the Trustees have been aware of
and acted according to the guidance issued
by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
Ethos of the charity Para 1.38 Everyone who contributes to the
organisation and management of our annual
Show, does so on a voluntary basis. As well
as the Show Committee (which comprises
nine members), local people always rally
round to help as the day of the Show
approaches, and on the day itself. This is
significantly in keeping with the stated ethos
of our charity, which is to promote
community cohesion by
(i) engaging and bringing together people
from Gwenddwr and its surrounding area;
(ii) supporting the local social and
community infrastructure;
(iii) developing links with local groups whose
objectives are similar to our own.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 After a hiatus during lockdown – when
Gwenddwr Show had to ‘go online’ – we
were able to return to our traditional format
on 30 July 2022. The day may not have
been sunny but spirits were high and
attendance seemed to have been boosted
by the long wait. Some new activities for
children and adults, added to the
programme, were well-received. With
bumper entry to most competitions, from
sheep, pony and dog sections to craft,
cookery, photography, flowers and
horticultural classes in the marquee,
feedback after the event indicated that the
2022 Show had returned to full strength and
popularity in the local community and
beyond.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 Funds are markedly more healthy this year,
with income exceeding outgoings. A single
large donation made a significant difference
to income.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 The Trustees are conscious that all spending
must be in line with the aims of the Charity.
Some capital expenditure (tentage) has
been considered but a decision has been
deferred.
