SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 In 2024, we continued to expand and develop
the activities of the Romsey Chamber Music
Festival (RCMF)
Our mini-Winter Festival saw two concerts in
Romsey and a fundraising concert in London. We
also delivered another highly successful series of
school concerts, bringing live chamber music to
young audiences as well as coaching sessions
and side-by-side playing opportunities for young
musicians.
The summer festival, titled 'Of Love and
Madness,' took place in June, featuring 12
events across 7 days in venues throughout the
Test Valley. The theme explored the boundaries
between love and insanity, with a diverse
selection of composers. Our programming
featured seven new works, including four world
premieres, alongside well-loved masterpieces.
We welcomed outstanding musicians from
across Europe. Highlights included a sold-out
dawn recital on the River Test, an intimate
performance of Schubert’s_Die Schöne Müllerin_
by baritone Thomas Guthrie, a late-night
performance of Schoenberg’s_Verklärte Nacht_
and_Jennifer Higdon’s_Love Sweet.
Educational and outreach work included
performances by young local musicians side-by-
side with festival artists, a public masterclass for
young string players, including BBC Young
Musician competitor Rose Gosney, a school trip
to_Die Schöne Müllerin,_a children’s choir
workshop which introduced local children to
global rhythms and a family concert under our
pay-as-you-wish model.
The festival continued to attract a dedicated
local audience while also drawing visitors from
across the UK and Europe, reinforcing RCMF’s
growing international reputation, reflected in
strong press coverage, which praised the
festival’s ambitious programming and
commitment to accessibility.
