Para 1.20 For the year ending 28th February 2025,
Perkisound has made major
improvements to The Learning Hub,
formally known as ‘The Botany Barn and
Learning Zone’.
During September 2025, a new 3-room
modular building was installed and
opened within the Learning Hub area. The
building is fully furnished and tailored
specifically for children and young
people with special needs and is
used for educational activities during
term time. The area includes a large
commercial-size polytunnel,( opened
during accounting period 2023 – 24.) The
polytunnel has been upgraded this year
with connection to utilities including
heating and air conditioning and is now
in full use for horticultural activities. All
Learning Hub facilities are contained
within a separate secure area of the
Perkisound site and are booked
separately from the main Perkisound
music and recreation facilities.

Para 1.41 Perkisound has continued to operate as a
music and recreation centre for the
benefit of children and young people with
additional needs, open daily throughout
the year for 50 weeks. Visitor numbers
have increased from last year by around
30%. The centre is regularly used by SE
for this period were 4,890 N schools,
children’s respite services, adult
residential facilities, and disability
community groups, as well as families
and carers caring for an autistic child or
young person. Visitor numbers for this
period were 4,890 and all visitors have
additional needs, the most prevalent
being autistic spectrum conditions.
Perkisound has continued to offer bi
weekly baby/preschool music stay-and-
play groups during term time and has
expanded the service by offering holiday
sessions to include siblings.
The sessions are led by a qualified music
teacher, with living experience of special
educational needs and include a Makaton
sign session with the aim of helping early
communication as well as musical and
social skills.
Holiday sessions concentrate on live
music play along to be relevant to older
children with folk-influenced interactive
band ‘Sounds Indigo’led by Trustee Tim
Perkins on violin, guitar and bouzouki.
There have been 86 sessions attended by
1558 children.
The group is for all abilities and around
25% of these children have additional
needs and attend the group due to the
bespoke nature of the centre.

Responsibilities and basis of report

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended DD / MM / YYYY .

As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
