The This is My City Festval was atended by over 500 people who were able to take part in a range of sportng actvites for free. These included Athletcs, Hockey, Table Tennis, Football and Rugby. Exhibitons also took place for Boxing and Kabaddi. The festval also included the frst screening of the flm Queens of the Commonwealth which highlighted the role of women from across the Commonwealth who had made Britain their home and the challenges and struggles they faced. The Play Zones project involved a piece of research carried out by UCAN on behalf of Birmingham City Council and the Football Foundaton. The research involved an online survey, group interviews and individual interviews. Over 610 people engaged in the online surveyand over 30group |
and individual interviews were undertaken. The demographic of those taking part in the research reflected Birmingham’s young and diverse population with 44% of the participants under the age of 18 and 78% were non-white. As a result of the research, 4 venues across Birmingham have received funding to develop the Play Zone sites. The four sites are: Adderley Park – Alum Rock Ward Batchelors Farm – Bordesley Green Ward Concord Youth Centre – Sparkbrook Ward Action Indoor Sport – Graveley Hill Ward
