Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31 December 2020

Objectives and activities:

The objectives for which the charity was established are

For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of animals in need of care and attention by providing animal care, a rescue home, veterinary treatment including neutering, and a sanctuary for animals that have been abandoned, mistreated or lost.
To provide rehabilitation to animals that have experienced trauma and/or behaviour issues and ensure that they can live the best life possible
To find safe, loving permanent homes for rescued animals, which meet their individual needs.

Achievement and performance:

The charity continues to perform and promote the core values which were established by Laura and Cliff Santini.

The covid pandemic has had an effect on the number of dogs rehomed via Holbrook Animal Rescue. We rehomed approximately 40 dogs in addition to some goats, chickens and sheep. Some of the animals we rehomed required veterinary treatment and/or rehabilitation before they were suitable for rehoming. We have a qualified dog behaviourist who develops training plans and provides guidance regarding dogs with behaviour issues.

We have 16 animals in sanctuary.

During 2020 we continued to welcome local corporate companies to the sanctuary with groups of employees helping complete projects as required.

Fundraising remains a big challenge for us. We now have a broad range of ways by which people can support us financially including participating in the giving lottery and becoming part of the charities aid foundation.

The trustee’s thanks go to the 70 plus dedicated volunteers without whom we would not be able to operate. They give their time regardless of the weather and are always willing to provide additional support as required.

Financial Review

Financial Position

At the end of the financial year our income was £52363 and our spending £35955.

We will be facing serious challenges in the next few years as the land has been sold for housing development. The land is leased by Laura and Cliff Santini and does not belong to the charity. If we cannot raise enough funds to buy a new home, then the rescue may not be able to continue. Our aim is to build a new facility which will also have amenities for community groups to visit and learn about animal husbandry and dog safety and care.

Structure, Governance and Management

The charity is run by the trustee board and trustee meetings are held on a regular basis.

Any changes to current procedures are agreed and documented.
