City of Wells Lions Club

Trustee Report for Annual General Meeting

Meeting held at the Lawrence Centre on the 10[th of] June 2024

Annual General Meeting

Following the agreement in the AGM of 12 June 2023 the meeting is to be held at the June monthly meeting. At this meeting of 10 June 2024 it will be reviewed if this should revert to May from 2025.

Trustee Meetings

The Trustees, have considered business via correspondence due to the difficulty of all meeting together. Matters discussed are that a specific statement regarding potential members be adopted as follows:

Prospective members should attend such business meetings, social events and community activities to allow them to obtain sufficient knowledge of the club before making an application. If required joining meetings by a remote platform is acceptable. Applications should be made in writing on the relevant form and may be done electronically. These may be stored electronically and kept by the membership officer.

The trustees also agreed that as of 18[th] May 2024 the Secretary elect, Stephen Whitby, and the Treasurer elect Ann Ray be given full access to the bank accounts.

August 28[th] , 2023 – Raft Moat Race:

The event is a series of races in the moat surrounding the Bishop’s Palace in Wells. Risk Assessment and Operational Plan approved by Mendip Council and the Church Commissioners. No refreshments sold and no commercial stalls thus a communitybased event not on the public highway. Attendance is approximately 2000 people. This event included a bucket collection for Lions charities with the relevant license being obtained from the local authority.

November 5th, 2023 – Moat Race Presentation Evening:

An invited group of competitors that had taken part in the Moat Race came together for a trophy presentation evening at a local venue.

November 28th to December 20th, 2023 - Tree of Light:

A Christmas Tree was erected in the grounds of the Bishop’s Palace so that stars could be purchased by community members for their loved ones who had passed away. A short service that had an audience of 30 people took place before the tree was taken down. The tree was erected and cabling for the lights installed by staff at the Bishop’s Palace thus the event was covered by their insurance.

An event was held in St Thomas Church with a local band and raising money for The Lawrence Centre and Lions charities.
