Objectives and Activities

To promote public understanding and enjoyment of the physical and natural environment and cultural heritage of the area of benefit for current and future generations.
Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts.	Para 1.17 and 1.19	The charity's main activity is through its MAVES committee (Mid Arun Valley Environmental Survey). MAVES commissions and carries out: ecological research; practical projects for conservation enhancement and enjoyment of the natural environment; educational talks and walks and community engagement projects. During this accounts period the charity has seen little activity due to lack of available volunteer time.

Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.	Para 1.20	On 8thMay 2023 Arun Countryside Trust hosted a community volunteer helpout day celebrating the Coronation, with work including stream clearance, litter pick and tree planting on the day’s activity list. The charity was generally inactive in terms of fundraising and expenditure during this period. The Trustees have been relieved, at least for the present, of the main strategic threat to our area of benefit, the Arundel Bypass proposals which would have meant ecological severance of our main area of focus. The Bypass proposals were deferred by the previous government in 2023 and then cancelled by the new government on 29 July 2024. Volunteers and trustees had continued through this period to consider the ecological and community impacts of the proposals. Further costly ecological survey work, which has been the charity’s main expenditure in the past, was not required in this period.
