SORP reference

achievements of the charity,

charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Advice service: Norfolk Badger Trust
have been able to assist a number of
individuals and organisations by
providing information and advice about
badgers in Norfolk, which has resulted in
direct and indirect benefit to badgers and
the general public. Examples of such
instances include: following up on
reports of potential wildlife crime
reported by concerned members of the
public and liaising with the police;
providing advice to concerned
landowners about orphan badger cubs
and ultimately carrying out rescue and
rehabilitation; working with wildlife
rescue organisations to facilitate rescue
operations; providing advice to farmers
and landowners experiencing issues with
badgers on their land; liaising with
ecological consultants in order to aid
ecological assessments of potential
developments.
Public engagement/educational talks:
During the reporting period the
Coronavirus pandemic has meant that
the group did not attend public events or
deliver talks such as would usually be a
core activity of the group.
Norfolk Badger Trust collect, validate
(where appropriate) and collate badger
records (setts, live sightings and dead
animals) from trustees, members and the
general public via voluntary reporting.
During this reporting period records were
collected and submitted to the Local
Environmental Records Centre, Norfolk
Biodiversity Information Service. This
information is made available for use by
third parties in research and impact
assessments for developments etc.
where appropriate.

All of the activities listed above have benefitted badgers and/or the public. By offering advice and information Norfolk Badger Trust have been able to effectively promote the conservation and protection of badgers, which in turn ensures the ecosystem services they provide humanity persist. These activities also facilitate a reduction in human-badger conflict e.g. through minimising damage to property or promoting mitigation to reduce road vehicle collisions with badgers, and allowing people to work within the laws pertaining to badgers and their setts.
