| Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
The trustees confirm that they have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity’s aims and objectives and will take account of the public benefit requirements when planning future activities. Harmony exists to promote music education and performance for people under the age of 25 years who are socially and economically disadvantaged; there are many who would like to study music and become competent at playing a musical instrument but who currently lack the funds they need to do this. The aim of the charity is to provide the necessary assistance that will enable children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their musical ambitions, whether at school, in higher education, or at the start of a career as a professional musician. The playing and performing of music can help people to express themselves better, find new confidence in their own abilities and discover hope for a better future. Playing music with others, in ensembles or orchestras, develops an awareness of how individual contributions can come together to make the whole, and this brings a sense of community. Working towards a common goal in partnership with other musicians cultivates valuable life skills that can be utilised in many different walks of life, as well as in the field of music. There are millions of under-25s, in the UK and across the world, who have never had the opportunity to experience the life- enhancing benefits of music-making and are therefore potential beneficiaries of the charity’s work. Harmony’s charitable objects describe various ways in which it might seek to support the music training of young people under the age of 25. These include the provision of direct financial assistance where needed, input from professional musicians funded by the charity and the setting up of special projects involving groups of young musicians. |

Section D Achievements and erformance p
Summary of the main The prolonged impact of Covid restrictions during the financial year achievements of the charity meant there were no opportunities to develop the charity’s work; during the year this included the planned re-recording of the lead vocal part on the STAND soundtrack, which could not be carried out as we had hoped. As a result the use of the song as a fundraising vehicle had to be put on hold. Donations amounted to £950, which covered the costs of further development of the charity’s website and legal advice in connection with the use of the STAND soundtrack.
