Para 1.17 Marlborough & District Lions Club is a
member of the International Association of
Lions Clubs. The objectives of the club
include,

promoting the principles of good
citizenship

active interest in the civic, cultural,
social & moral welfare of the
community

Provide a forum for the open
discussion of all matters of public
interest providing that partisan
politics and sectarian religion should
not be debated by members

personal reward and encouraging the
promotion of high ethical standards in
commerce, industry, professions
public works & private endeavours.

Supporting youth to develop their
skills, capacities and capabilities to
enable them to participate in society
as mature and responsible

the public benefit by associating with
local authorities in a common effort to
advance education and provide
facilities in the interests of social
welfare for recreation or other leisure
time occupation.

1.19
This year the Club has been involved in a
number of fundraising activities.
From March onwards it has held a breakfast
bar at a local Car Boot Sale, serving bacon
sausages and burgers, plus drinks for
visitors to the car boot. It has also been a
good way of raising our profile within the
community.
It has also held an Easter cake stall, with
free eggs for Children on Easter Sunday.
In April & May, with the support of Forestry
England, we were able to facilitate people
with or without their cars to visit a local
Bluebell Wood, most of which is not normally
open to the public. A request for donations is
made at the gate.
An information stand was set up at a local
supermarket, with a “Name the Lion”
competition which also gave the club an
opportunity to meet the public and promote
membership.
A stand at a local show in June with a
Tombola was another fundraising activity.
In November we supported the Marlborough
Community by providing Father Christmas
and his sleigh and drove the Mayor through
the centre of Marlborough at the annual
Christmas light switch-on
Father Christmas and his sleigh was also
driven around the town, villages and
supermarkets in the area, bringing joy to
families and raising funds throughout
December.

Para 1.18 The Trustees have paid regard to the Charity
Commission’s guidance on public benefit in
dealing with the objectives and activities of
the club.
The Club is governed by its CIO Constitution
and by the Constitutions and By-Laws of
Lions Clubs International as revised from
time to time. The Trustees are appointed in
accordance with Charity Law and they have
overall responsibility to ensure that the Club
operates in accordance with Charity law and
the club’s CIO document. All business of the
club is carried out on a monthly basis and is
attended and overseen by the Trustees.
The club relies on fundraising events and
occasional donations from the public to carry
out its work. All administrative expenses of
the club are met from subscriptions paid by
its members. The work is carried out entirely
by volunteers.
The club works with other local and national
agencies, and with other Lions Clubs, and
Lions Clubs international to achieve its
objectives.

Achievements and Performance

Para 1.20 This year, we have raised £8,644 through
our fundraising efforts and distributed
£7,366.
We have been supporting a number of
individuals, families and children in the
Marlborough & District area. Examples of
this are:

Providing Physiotherapy for a child
with disabilities to enable the child to
start at his local school.

Nursery for a child with learning
difficulties during the school
holidays, to enable the child’s
parents to have a break.

A mattress and storage for a family.

Carpets and flooring for a number of
families who have moved into social
housing (where the policy is for
carpets are removed at each change
of tenant).

Washing Machines and a cooker.

Clothing for someone who had
nothing.

Hampers at Christmas.

Christmas and Mother’s day gifts.

A specialised tent and sunglasses
for a child who had an allergy to
sunlight.

A local school was provided with
play equipment.
We have sponsored a disadvantaged young
person, nominated by their school, for a year
to attend a Youth Camp which helps their
personal development and confidence
through a range of activities. (carried forward
from last year due to Covid restrictions).
We have also donated to the Mayor of
Marlborough Charities following the
Christmas Light Switch-on and Lions
International Relief funds for Eye Camps and
Water Aid.
We have provided “message in a bottle”
bottles to the elderly who store medication
details in a bottle in their fridge. This is used
by paramedics in an emergency.
We have collected glasses from a local
optician and other locations and sent them
for recycling.

the year with a good balance Sheet, with
closing balance of £8,092.
We donated £7,366, against an income of
£8,644. The has shown that in a difficult year
we are still able to provide help and support,
and balance the books.
